There was a statistic going around last off season; I can’t remember it exactly. It was something like over 40% of players who enter the portal never come out. They just never get picked up by another team and drop out of football entirely.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 9:48 pmHomecoming always is a hard game to win. So much other stuff is going on besides the game, it is easy to get distracted.biggie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 8:20 pmHoping the crowd is better for Marsh than USM. A lot of empty seats after half even from students. I’m sure homecoming had something to do with it.
Think that may have been the first time I’ve almost seen 2 App fans get in a fight in the stands as well. Though the younger one being plastered was the main culprit.
Something I had not considered until now is that hitting the portal is not as easy as it might seem. I imagine some players hit the portal, not because they are not getting playing time, but because they feel that they can get a better NIL deal elsewhere. Appalachian does not have the kind of NIL money that some schools do. Also, I do not think you really want that kind of player or coach on your team.
I’ve said before, the portal doesn’t change THAT much about football. It just makes it easier for players to switch schools, and they don’t have to sit a year. The big schools with lots of money have almost always gotten the bigger recruits, and that has stayed the same. The money stuff is just above the table now.
