Has anyone watched it? Marshall up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. ECU up 13-10 at the start of the fourth. Final 31-13 Marshall.
Marshall’s star RB had a Weird game too. 18-85 with 3 tds. Sounds great. Weird breakdown though:
16 carries, 15 yards, 1 touchdown.
2 carries, 70 yards, 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter.

Re: EZU discussion
Man, he seems done. I get that ECU's standards are high and they have been let down for going on 8 years now, but any time they play a close game, or the QB struggles just a bit, their fanbase goes nuts. Holton Ahlers was somehow not good enough for ECU but is good enough for the Seahawks type of thing. Houston seems over it because he likely knows better than the fans since he is at practice every day.
I'd imagine much of this centers around QB play. ECU had Patrick Pinckney until 2009, then Dominique Davis comes in along with the Air Raid and elevates their program. Shane Carden comes in and continues that legacy with Lincoln Riley. Then Gardner Minshew comes in, does good things, leaves, Ruffin is fired, Scottie Montgomery is hired, and the rest is sort of recent history.
Their fans are so restless for the type of season they haven't had, maybe ever (when is the last time they won 10 games?), and he has a four star QB he's trying to develop, yet the fans lose their minds. Garcia has struggled and looks lost out there right now, but with his physical tools and obvious NFL speed and arm, not to mention size, it wouldn't be wise to give up on him after two games.
I don't know that Garcia will ever figure it out, but if he does, I hope it's not this week. He has a cannon of an arm and can run so if his mind should ever catch up with his physical talents, he'd be one of the most dominant QB's in college football. But there is a reason he ended up at ECU instead of a Florida or something.
Re: EZU discussion
Struggles just a bit? Garcia has been hot, stinky, garbage and your posts on the other boards on the internet where you pretend to root for ECU and App show you understand he's been awful. If whoever Apps starting QB right now was 21-41 for for 142 yards 1 td, 2 ints through 2 games you'd be rightfully pissed as hell. If he wants to not give up on him I can kinda understand it, Garcia is a huge talent and massive "potential", but potential can get you fired. Either way there's no fan base on earth that gives a damn that wouldn't be steaming mad about the QB play ECU has run out there so far.ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 11:50 amMan, he seems done. Re: EZU discussion
Worst defense? That's kind of relative this early. Albany (who is that?) put up 300 yards on the Herd. ECU had 11 penalties for over 110 yards against them. That will kill you every time. I'd say that based on two game samples we played the better offenses than the Herd.

Re: EZU discussion
A fair question. I think that any answer given is largely based on subjective speculation. I mean teams just matchup differently sometimes and teams improve, or you at least hope they do, weekly. ECU’s offense could very well start to click this week and produce at a higher level than the 1st two games. Does that mean that we are worse than Michigan or Marshall? It’s debatable but hardly definitive or predictive of what will happen as the season moves on.

We have struggled with mobile QBs and they have a large one. Containment is the word of the day, make him beat you with his arm.
Re: EZU discussion
Most likely, which is why I suspect ECU actually scores at least 1 real offensive TD in this game.

Re: EZU discussion
I'm not convinced that the ECU offense is as bad as many folks seem to think. Michigan was the #5 scoring defense in the country last year and look just as dominant on that side of the ball this season. Marshall was #7. Different season of course but a lot of returners on both those teams.
App averaged 35 points and 455 yards per game last season but only managed two offensive touchdowns and under 300 yards of total offense against Marshall. App certainly looks improved on that side of the ball but don't think we are as stout as Marshall and certainly not comparable to Michigan.
I expect we'll need our A game to get it done on Saturday.

We have struggled with mobile QBs IN THE PAST. In two games this season, neither QB that App has faced has had many big running plays.
I still think App rolls ECU

Re: EZU discussion
I would call those late 4th quarter 1st down rushing plays by Maye to be big running plays, not to mention his rushing td. Maybe not in yards gained but certainly in outcome of the game.

Re: EZU discussion
We’ll see. I talked myself into believing all the awful things I saw against Michigan were because it was Michigan and then it looked every bit as bad if not worse at home against Marshall. I do think this is the worst defense ECU has faced, but going on the road in a nasty hostile environment and an offense with less than zero confidence in itself it’s hard to buy it’s going to go from looking completely lost to a functioning unit. Maybe I’m wrong, but I expect them to look completely dysfunctional again if Garcia starts. Maybe against GW they could start looking like they can spell offense.asumike83 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 9:30 amI'm not convinced that the ECU offense is as bad as many folks seem to think. Re: EZU discussion
Hopefully this issue left when Dale Jones retired.
I can accept someone like Maye who is not know for running MAYBE running for 7 yards once per drive in the event maybe he had to break the pocket.
The one's that have always gotten to me historically are the one's any scouting report or even highlights could tell you they have a mobile QB, and we still give up over 120 to that QB

Pretty good, but less YPG than the week before against South Carolina, and less per carry than he had against App last year.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:06 amMaye averaged 5.2 a carry. Pretty good IMO
I'm just saying, while App gave up some plays to Maye on the ground, they weren't the difference in the game. Omarion Hampton was the difference maker.
