I can respect your take and opinion on this matter because you have actually gone and asked the questions to those that can provide context to the situation.Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 1:05 pmI think I’m a crowd of one , no excuses. A loss will be a clear indication that we have regressed, at least in relationship to the Pirates. The conference race will play out through the weeks ahead and we will know where we stand in the Sunbelt.

10-16. Surprisingly GA St. is three of those wins, didn't realize they had that many winning seasons.
I don't like this stat as much as if we are successful our opponents have a harder time achieving .500+ winning percentage. There were probably 10-12 teams (2-3 per year) that finished 5-7 or 6-7 with a bowl victory that we beat.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Now that is not good. 10-16 v FBS >.500. Go ahead and count 5-7 or 6-7 and see what it is, even though IMO those are not good teams. Essentially we're .500 v teams better than 5-7.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 2:27 pm10-16. Surprisingly GA St. is three of those wins, didn't realize they had that many winning seasons.

Anyone that assumes others on here don't have connections on Jack Branch and Academy St. is being awfully naive.

You don't know what we are right now. It's weird how so many of y'all keep acting like ECU sucks. We've got new QB, new WRs, new OC, borderline elite G5 defense. We're almost nothing like the 2 win team from last season. ODU game wouldn't have been a contest w/o the interceptions.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 8:39 amIf you lose two out of 3 to start the season you are staring at a 4-5 loss campaign. On the flip side, go on a run and keep it to 2-3 losses and win the conference and the job is safe for possibly a new contract. Huge year for coach.

Vague attacks and making it personal again, why, take it to DMs if you'd like to continue down that path.
I can't imagine wasting the time of my contacts bad mouthing someone from a message board conversation.

So you are saying we shouldn’t consider the interception's? Turnovers are part of what makes ECU suck. I did enjoy the comment on the borderline elite defense. Re: Moving On to ECU
To be fair, do you even know what you are at this point? You played a FCS team and a FBS team that was picked to finish last in the Sun Belt East. You committed four turnovers and won? That’s not from being good, that’s from playing a bad opponent. App is a significant upgrade in competition this week for the pi-rates. Let’s pump the brakes on the elite talk.blunderbuss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 3:15 pmYou don't know what we are right now. It's weird how so many of y'all keep acting like ECU sucks. Fair enough. Also we would have beat Clemson if we had stopped all their scoring plays.blunderbuss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 3:15 pmYou don't know what we are right now. I'm not saying they shouldn't be considered. It's just an insane trend right now that I think will get better. All of his other stats have been great. Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I think we're in fluke territory right now.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:42 amSo you are saying we shouldn’t consider the interception's? Re: Moving On to ECU
I'm glad to see ECU fans have some life. The last couple of years has been a sad state of affairs.
I'm also happy to send them back into a tailspin come Saturday. I hope Houston has a problem. Houston was at LR/Citadel/JMU/ECU, yeah this one likely means something to him, so we'll get there best shot.

Re: Moving On to ECU
It's been depressing af to be totally honest. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd say our last AD and ex-BOT were plants intended on taking a nuke to our football program. It's been 10 long years. It feels like we're finally on the cusp of some sense of normalcy, sans last years' setback. Our HC seems like he finally pulled his head out of his rear end on modern offenses as well. IDK man... we just really need this win.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:28 amI'm glad to see ECU fans have some life. The last couple of years has been a sad state of affairs.

I respect the hell out of App's program. I grew up going to Linville to see family, had friends go to App and almost went there myself. I've often wondered which was the better path after the D1 split. App had a heck of a lot of success at the lower level. ECU had a lot of struggles early on at the upper level w/ years of independence. The lack of "conference championships" is therefore a little deceiving. I think I speak for MOST ECU fans though when I say that we wouldn't trade the runs we had in the 90's and mid-00's to mid 10's for anything. We were the 1st G5 program ranked in the CFP believe it or not. Then things started to unravel.... anyway long way to say I respect App and am ready for all the pain to end. Hopefully our handful of big fish that head their head's up their ass learned their lesson.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Personally, I believe Saturday will be a more difficult task than in past years ..ECU is at the top or near the top of number of plays run per game which equates to me they are no huddle or quick out of the huddle...and does not sub much on drives....which means we may not be able to sub often...In some respects, the lack of scoring against ODU was due turnovers....hopefully, the turnovers continue...Going to be interesting to see how it plays out on Saturday.

Re: Moving On to ECU
I think it's just silly to discount ECU based on previous years In this day of NIL/Portal, things change dramatically from season to season. We know Houston is a good coach and it appears he's made good moves I don't think they're world beaters, but we will need to play App football.
Last week was an anomaly. I was there and stayed till the end, but it was painful. The D struggled and the O couldn't maintain a drive, so we kept putting the D back out there. It went off the rail and spiraled very quickly. I don't see a repeat of that. Joey will find his rhythm. The OL will continue to take steps and gel. We will sustain drives and manage the clock much better. I expect a good game but App wins and finally answers some questions. (I hope)

Re: Moving On to ECU
An objective observer would see Saturday's game as a tossup. ECU's style is much different in the past, they are an up tempo offense which will likely give our D some trouble, and we won't be as able to utilize our depth on that side of the ball. They lead the nation in possessions per game. I confess to have less confidence in our defense than some here. While Garcia has been turnover prone, to my knowledge we have yet to gain a turnover on defense.
Their defense won't be Clemson but neither will it be ETSU. At this point they are giving up less than 2 yards per carry against the run, an area we have not shown to be our strong suit thus far. Joey will need to be better than he has been in our first two games.
Certainly, our team won't view this game as many of fans apparently do. A win in Greenville will need to be earned.

Re: Moving On to ECU
I agree Hap, a lot of uncertainty on the defensive side of the ball (and our oline). If we have the defense most thought before the season we'll win, if not could be a long day. I would say our defensive depth should help even if we aren't able to sub in during ECU drives. I'm sure they've practiced with some set rotations this week preparing for their style of offense.
We'll know a lot about this team around 8PM Saturday.
