Apparently you haven't followed all the posts in this thread. I never tried to create controversy and don't know why you think so. I just think that in some ways spending and emphasis on athletics has outshone academics and one poster seemed to agree with that. Sure our football accomplisments have generated attention to our institution and resulting increase in applications, but I wish that would have already occurred. Too, I think the benefit yielded from athletics to the academics has been slightly exaggerated. But, hey, any benefit I'm sure has been appreciated by all. Too, I just wish their was as much excitement generated in giving to our Foundation as to Yosef,although the recent capital campaign has been exciting. Even there much of it is going to athletics.

PS. I admit to being a bit of a curmudgeon.
And to the other poster, I never said we couldn't be both a great academic as well as athletic institution, but just hope our acaademics outshines our athletic reputation and I'm not sure it does and from talking to the "man on the street" others agree.

We are in the middle of a $200M campaign for Appalachian. $137M is for academics. So what's the problem you're acting like we are Western or some other bottom feeder. You keep talking about Peacock and his love of athletics. I would bet my paycheck athletics was not in Peacock's top 5 goals as a chancellor.

It sure feels like we're pinching pennies these days:

-- We didn't allow several of our teams on campus the weekend before school started because we declined to pay their housing costs, something we routinely did in the past.

-- We redirected funds raised by the baseball team and earmarked for the baseball team and channeled those funds to the overall athletic budget.

-- Except for a day trip to Charlotte, the band hasn't played on the road this season.

-- Employees who expected to be compensated with FBS-level salaries are seeking employment elsewhere, presumably because those FBS-level salaries aren't materializing. See Jay Sutton, Jake Stroot. Others are actively looking.

-- Our Board of Trustees extended the contracts of two young coaches whose service here so far has been unremarkable as a hedge against paying them higher salaries later. It has the potential to control expenses in the short term but comes at considerable risk if those coaches fail to produce.

The point is, I'm enjoying the improved football schedule and increased presence on regional and national television as much as the next person, but it appears we're having trouble making Charlie Cobb's fanciful FBS financial projections come true.

This post is full of incorrect assumptions based on the recent news.

Point out those incorrect assumptions.

Most of these issues were directly related to poor management by Coob. Everts wasn't around long enough to impact these decisions.
