For once, I wouldn't rather be in Boone. Oh, who am I kidding. I still want to be there. There's got to be a good bar on a hill.

The mall area has always been terrible.
I lived in College Place for two years. I remember getting up (coming to) one Sunday morning and looking out the window to find the parking lot flooded up to the bottom of the cars. My roommates and I started beating on doors as we headed to move our cars. Probably pissed off a few, but saved a lot of others a boatload of trouble. The water was almost at its crest, but most cars were within an inch of being flooded out.

I live here and work on campus. It was BAAAAAAAAD up here yesterday...especially last evening! I've never seen so much water come down so fast! We watched from our office in the JET Building as Boone "Kraut" Creek rose RAPIDLY and completely overflowed it's banks turning into "Mountaineer Lake" in Durham Park. Rivers Street and Blowing Rock Road looked like the mighty Mississippi! As of this morning (Thursday) the waters have receded and all is well. Now, it's SNOWING! * * * * * * *
This week, we've had it ALL weather-wise! It's been sweet spring...turned to Noah's flood...turned to Old Man Winter! I don't know what to wear anymore!

For real, or are you being sarcastic?

The first time I heard that was first day of marching band practice in 1972. Joe Phelps said that in his welcome to ASU/Boone speech. So true!
Don't remember which year it was....maybe 75 or 76....we had huge rains and a damn broke, washing away several houses north of Boone. Friends named Vick and MaryEllen Moose lost everything.

First time I heard it was on my campus visit in April 1999. The Appalachian Ambassador giving us a tour of campus said that to us...of course, she had the weather to prove it. We arrived at 9am and it was in the 50's and sunny. By the time we left the Student Union at noon it was in the 30's and sleet/snow accumulating. We weren't staying the night, so we had to hightail it down the mountain.

Some of those mall pics make it look like there's a line of sharks in the parking lot.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

I thought the flood of Oct. 77 was bad...well it was,but with all the new pavement and building that has gone on in the last 35 years, the water has nowhere to go but to the mall. They don't call it River Street for nuttin'.

It was an epic rain event. I don't remember one that equals it. Rays Weather said 1-2 inches(WAY off) and sort of glazed over it and I think a lot of people were surprised by the intensity.
