Marki Bryan...Who's he?

Unread post by asu66 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 8:02 am

You folks remember Ravenscroft basketballer Marki Bryan? You know, the 6-8, 225 PF/C who committed to the Apps; then decommitted; then reconsidered and re-committed right before he re-decommitted  ? Well it seems he's finally surfaced; or so they say over on verbalcommits.com. For a while, the kid simply dropped off recruiting boards everywhere, presumably because he was most certainly headed to ASU. He was, and then he wasn't x 2. Then there were rumors about his interest Pitt, the UR Spiders and Rutgers.

Well his secret's out. He's apparently going to be a UNCC miner-49er. So he'll apparently be on the floor of HCC in the fall when UNCC comes calling; only he'll be a member of the losing team. He had at least two chances to get it right; and he blew them both. I refuse to feel sorry for him.

Eh, he's a decent player, but not a guy that I feel would make a huge difference on our roster besides provide a little bit of depth in the front court. He's a good rebounder and can put it in around the basket, but I don't see him really making a big impact going against guys that are just as strong and big as he is.

Capel puts more emphasis on small ball, get out and spread the floor on offense. Marki doesn't really fit that bill. No big loss imo, but best of luck to him.

I had moved him to the 2014 main page because the last tweet I saw about him (July 26th) stated he was going the prep route and moving to a 2014 recruit. I saw this a couple of days ago and showed him as a UNCC commit but forgot to move it back to the 2013 page. Pages are updated now.

He's flipped so much that he might just shoot the ball in the wrong basket. Doesn't bother me a bit.

Funny side note; Rivals doesn't even show him as even having an App offer or interest.

Have to disagree with the being on the losing team part.

That's why they play the game. I like our chances. The niners return only 7 players with experience. They have a lot of newcomers to weave into their system and team chemistry. It should be a back and forth contest. Apps by 3+ if we can keep the turnovers down.

Agreed, I think we should have a good chance at pulling this one out. The team looked very good (relatively) over the last few weeks of the season. If Mike Neal can continue to improve and cut down on turnovers, we have serious potential. I feel like Tevin Baskin can definitely do a serviceable job replacing Healy, and we return everyone else who contributed last year. I think Aaron Scott especially will come in and make an immediate impact.

Until Capel shows the capability to coach, even good players, I will remain a skeptic.
