Upcoming visits
Starting Jan 17th we have only three official weekends left for recruits and their families to visit App State and for the staff to sell App to them. Many of the visitors are already App commits and it's critical for the visits to solidify their commitments since the poaching attempts from other schools have already begun. I feel most are solid commits but we have a few that could go to the right offer and a couple who are "liquid" commits. However any commit could be swayed by the right offer so we can't count anyone until that NLI is signed.
We are also going to be having several top remaining targets and plenty of others recruits, some with offers already and some without plus some commits from other schools. I'm going to do my best to put as complete a list of visitors together as I can for each weekend. I'll be working closely with Mike and John over at 24/7 to keep track of who is coming when and how they feel afterwards. I'll be updating this thread along with the Recruiting thread and Main Recruiting Page as this next month progresses. It's going to be a bumpy ride so hang on. Everyone keep you fingers crossed that the staff can finish strong and we can make our first FBS class our best class so far.
Weekend of Jan 17th:
TE Brandon Walton (6′ 5.5″ 235) of Carrollton High School in Carrollton, GA (App Commit)
RB J’vonte Herrod (6′ 0″ 210) of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA
Weekend of Jan 24th:
ATH Walden Davis (5′ 11″ 185) of Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA
Weekend of Jan 31st:
N/A
Also App "Commit" WR Rashad Canty (6′ 4″ 210) of Riverdale High School in Riverdale, GA and App offer ATH Hunter Renfrow (5′ 11″ 170) of Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, SC have said they are coming for visits but no dates are set yet.
There will be many more to add to these lists.

Re: Upcoming visits
It's looking like we are going to be bringing in around 15 recruits for the first official visit weekend, many of them are already App commits. From what I can pick up I'm going to add App Commits:firemoose wrote:Weekend of Jan 17th:

QB Penny Smith (6′ 2″ 180) of Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN
RB Josh Boyd (5′ 10″ 180) of Norcross High School in Norcross/Snellville, GA
DL Alanmicheal Harkness (6′ 3″ 235) of Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, GA
DL Myquon Stout (6′ 1″ 255) of Jesse C Carson High School in China Grove, NC
DL Curtiss Benton (6′ 3″ 245) of Alcovy High School in Covington, GA
LB Okon Godwin (6′ 2″ 230) of Alcovy High School in Covington, GA
LB Eric Boggs (6′ 2″ 225) of Belton-Honea Path High School in Honea Path, SC
to the list coming on the weekend of the 17th along with TE Brandon Walton. It is also being reported that commit WR Rashad Canty (6′ 4″ 210) of Riverdale High School in Riverdale, GA will be taking his official then as well but I've only seen that posted in one place so I would like a little more confirmation before I say for sure.
If that number of 15 holds and Canty does indeed come then that leaves 5 more unknowns to add. I'll be updating the list for the 17th as more info comes out.
I'll also add App offer ATH Hunter Renfrow (5′ 11″ 170) of Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, SC to the list for the weekend of the 24th.
Lastly I'll add Ga Sou commit and App offer ATH/QB Tymashian Clemons (5′ 11″ 178) of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA to the "Unknown date but coming to visit" list.
More to follow.

Re: Upcoming visits
Hopefully Canty coming in with a lot of our other commits will aid in keeping him. Get to know some of his incoming class and whatnot.

Re: Upcoming visits
Add WR Darrell Haralson(6′ 4″ 210) of Smyrna High School in Smyrna, TN to the visit list for Jan 24th. He, along with WR Matthew Eaton were the two most likely to replace Canty (Eaton holds an offer, Haralson doesn't yet). However I'm a bit surprised by this one since he said on his own twitter that he was heartbroken that App was off the table a few weeks ago. He was talking about nothing but App before then. He never said why but did say we were no longer an option. Something must have changed for him to be taking an official. I'll keep digging.

Re: Upcoming visits
Remove "commit" WR Rashad Canty (6′ 4″ 210) of Riverdale High School in Riverdale, GA from this weekends list of visitors. Appears he is taking his official to Wake Forest. This leaves only two weekends and we know one is scheduled for Vandy on the 31st. We'll have to wait and see with this one but, as I've said, it looks like our reward for offering him early is to be kept on the hook until the very last minute and leave us no time to fill the spot. And with the news WR Montez McGuire (6′ 1″ 212) of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA needs two classes to get his GPA up enough to be eligible then we are having a real problem at WR for this class. McGuire has stated he's planning on enrolling in the summer and is not looking to go anywhere else but grades are an issue and that's another scholarship and another WR we won't know about until March (Georgia Military is on the quarter system). Not a good situation for the staff.
Re: Upcoming visits
at the time Sean Miller got kicked off the team, it seemed like nothing we couldn't handle, hurt in the short term, but I thought with our recruiting class we would be fine, now it looks like losing him is really going to hurt us in the next few years, hope that someone already on the team is ready to step up.

Re: Upcoming visits
Offers have as much to do with school size and promotion as the players. It's why players often go to live with relatives who are in the district for a higher profile school (see 2015 recruit Kelly Bryant) than stay at a smaller school. While Haralson is no doubt not as polished as Canty and will need some time to develop we also don't have to have our tall WR to be our #1 anymore as it was with Price and Quick. With all the other types of receivers we have we just need the target as a change up, not as the primary. And Haralson, on film, is a better downfield blocker than Canty, which with our style of offense, is just as important. He and/or Eaton will fill the role nicely.App95 wrote:Not sure how reliable it is, but rivals is showing Haralson has offers from App and Indiana St. Any insight on why he has so few offers given his size?

Re: Upcoming visits
The situation with Canty is just something the staff will have to deal with every year. Obviously smaller schools are more vulnerable to having guys jump on a bigger offer, but even elite programs get blindsided late by flips. Happens every year. Staff just needs to try and gauge the likelihood that he will stay in the fold and determine whether it makes sense to continue holding a spot for him. Certainly sounds like we need to have multiple offers out to WRs in any case given McGuire's situation and our roster needs.
Re: Upcoming visits
question, is the transfer from UNCC still on the team? Is he one of the players you guys are talking about getting playing time next year?

Re: Upcoming visits
Yes, Capel is still on the team. All indications point that he will get playing time next year, but as always, we will have to see how it pans out in preseason.moehler wrote:question, is the transfer from UNCC still on the team? Re: Upcoming visits
yep that's him Capels, he is interesting because a couple of years ago he was, I believe, the number 1 wide receiver target, we had him right up to the last moment when family pressures changed his mind and he signed with 49ers. For what its worth he was the number 1 signee for them, and from what I heard he didn't disappoint, alot of their fans said he was the best athlete/player on the team. I hope he can live up to the expectations we had for him 2 years ago.

Re: Upcoming visits
Remove RB J’vonte Herrod (6′ 0″ 210) of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA from the list for this weekend and probably from contention completely. He has stated he was going to announce this weekend and now he's canceled his visit here. Pretty much speaks for itself. I'm hoping that since QB Penny Smith is, for now, still planning to come then hopefully RB Daryl Rollins will chose to come with him. I also expect a couple more RB offers to go out soon should Herrod commit elsewhere.

Re: Upcoming visits
I'm going to add, or maybe switch is a better word, ATH Hunter Renfrow (5′ 11″ 170) of Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach to this weekends list. It was originally reported he was going to Clemson this weekend and App next but it looks like that's flipped. That makes the list at 9 right now, all but Renfrow are App commits. I'll keep checking and will add any more to the list as they become known.
App Commits:
QB Penny Smith (6′ 2″ 180) of Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN
TE Brandon Walton (6′ 5.5″ 235) of Carrollton High School in Carrollton, GA

LB Okon Godwin (6′ 2″ 230) of Alcovy High School in Covington, GA
LB Eric Boggs (6′ 2″ 225) of Belton-Honea Path High School in Honea Path, SC

Man, really would like to see more non-commits visiting along with all those commits. Give the committed kids a chance to assist in the recruiting.

Re: Upcoming visits
In years past we had 4 or 5 commits at the time of the first Jan visit weekend, this year we have over 20. That could be contributing to why we don't have a lot of uncommitted recruits this weekend.
