Can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia

Unread post by NewApp » Fri Oct 03, 2014 9:10 am

Excerpt from a Wikipedia article on Kidd Brewer Stadium. It seems to say the track is 3,333 feet long rather than 3,333 feet in elevation by saying "per NCAA qualifications:

" but still stands as a beacon to the Mountaineer faithful. It stands 3,280 feet (1,000 m) above sea level with the track measured at 3,333 feet (1,016 m) for NCAA qualifications."

Somebody, please go on Wikipedia and change that.

(That's why wikipedia is not a primary source, b/c one can change it.) One might surmise that a Catamount is responsible somehow for that error.

Now might be a good time to plug me "Scouring the Internet" I was trying to do back in August.

The way I read it, the article is saying the stadium is at 3,280 feet in elevation (probably meaning the entrance) and the track is at 3,333 feet elevation. The track elevation is needed because when qualifying times are being evaluated, things like the elevation of the venue and windspeed on the day of the meet are considered.

You're right, it says nothing about length/distance in there.

3,280 feet above sea level
3,330 feet above sea level

So it sounds like we are now back to being able to believe everything on Wikipedia now that we have this all sorted out?

Technically, the track has an infinite length. May the circle be unbroken.

Or you could go around it all day and have a displacement vector of zero.

Infinity = zero it would seem.

Then that would mean there is 53 feet difference in elevation. I don't believe that to be true.
