App-ODU: 3:30 on ASN

Unread post by EastHallApp » Tue Jul 28, 2015 10:46 am

No TV yet, but ODU is still trying.

According to the article, the game will likely start at 3:30 if it's televised, or at 6 if it isn't.

Kind of makes me appreciate the Sun Belt's TV deal - fewer games on traditional broadcast TV, but at least all home games and conference games are ESPN3 at worst.

Pretty terribly written article with bad info, but would definitely prefer the later kickoff times, fwiw.

Last year many of us got screwed on the Southern Miss game. We got all excited that DTV and others would carry them and at game time we were in for a big surprise that it was blacked out. I will take ESPN3 anyday over the hodge-podge of local/regional coverage or lack-of-coverage, whichever the case may be, of the CUSA package.

With ESPN3 you have many options for viewing and with my ROKU (and many others have similar Web TV streaming devices that work just as well) it is every bit the same as any other ESPN national broadcast from a quality and production standpoint.

According to a poster on the ODU board, the decision has just been made. It's a 3:30pm kickoff with TV on ASN. I can't confirm, it's just what they said.

Great, ASN stinks, are they going to black them out in Atlanta?

American Sports Network. Same network that broadcasted App's game at Southern Miss last year.

ASN has grown this year, but I don't think it's still available in Boone.

Minium takes a full paragraph to explain that ESPN3 is NOT on actual TV.

This means that I will be able to watch my Mountaineers on OTA antenna in Oregon for a second time in two years! That's better than when I lived in NC, SC, GA, or FL!

I don't know what YOUR definition of "actual TV" means but to me there is little difference to me. My Directv receiver gets its digital HD signal from a satellite and then feeds a digital HDMI signal into the back of TV. My Roku box gets its digital HD signal across a fiber cable from Comcast internet feed and then feeds a digital HDMI signal into the back of the same TV. If you have a HD antenna then you get a form of an HD signal transmitted via some form of RF across the airwaves into a receiver, either built into your TV on in a separate box that then converts the HD signal into an HDMI feed into your TV.

Basically in the end, I am watching a HD picture on my actual TV so I don't really care as long as it is not blacked out. Maybe that is the last time you make that statement to a physics major.

I did some more checking and for any of our Atlanta folks, Channel 36 WATL is now an affiliate of ASN. Whether they decide to carry the game or not is still not a definite. Last year, to my knowledge, we did not have any local affiliate and the only option was the New England sport network via Directv in this area but it got blacked out at gametime with no forewarning. Hopefully WATL decides to pick it up. I may have to make a call to them as we get near to game day.

WLOS out of Asheville carried the ASN games last year so I assume they will again.Good news for a lot of western NC, Upstate SC, and NE Ga.

Ordered my ODU tickets with my Touchdown half season ticket pack through App. This is one of the reasons that I am happy about our transition to FBS . Road games at a decent opponent within driving distance of the Carolinas. Glad it got picked up for tv.
