The men's soccer squad (3-4), reeling from three straight losses to rather mediocre teams, will try to get back on track tonight on the road at winless Presbyterian (0-8). Under more normal circumstances, even a casual observer would take the Apps as heavy favorites over this Big South opponent. The circumstances, however, aren't normal.
This year's Mountaineer squad has been a disappointment from the get-go; losing their first match to North Florida. They bounced back and put together a three game win streak, earning a ranking of #8 in the NCAA Southeast Region--and haven't won since. The recent losses came to Longwood, Radford and Winthrop. The "trap" loss to Winthrop ended the Eagles' five game losing skid.
Tonight's matchup is another classic trap game for the Apps. Presbyterian is on an eight game losing streak this season. Make that a 21 game losing streak dating back to September, 2014. In fact, it was ASU that started the Blue Hose on their staggering slide with a 4-nil win in Boone last season.
Let me put it all in perspective for us...
If ASU happened to be a member of the Big South Conference, we'd be dead last at 0-3 (with the losses to Longwood, Radford and Winthrop). Even lowly PC would be ahead of us in the standings. They're only 0-1 in conference play. Nice!
