From the Portland (ME) Press Herald:

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

APPALACHIAN STATE: Gary Fifield, who coached the women’s basketball team at the University of Southern Maine for 27 years before retiring at the end of the 2014-15 season, accepted a job as assistant to Coach Angel Elderkin at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina.

Fifield led USM to 21 Little East Conference championships, 26 NCAA Division III tournaments, 16 Sweet 16s, 10 elite eights, five final fours and three national final appearances. He retired with an 660-137 (.838) record.

Elderkin, beginning her first season as a head coach, played under Fifield from 1995-99 when the Huskies recorded three conference championships and a national final runner-up appearance.

Wow, it looks like we are forming a strong foundation for our women's basketball program. I really like our recent hires. It seems like we are moving forward in all our programs. Go App!

SBC coaches see us taking a step back from last season. Of course, the team has some big shoes to fill with the graduation Maryah Sydnor.
