ASU Volleyball (15-4, 8-0 SBC), winners of 11 straight matches, are on the road tonight in Statesboro, GA to take on the GaSouth Iggles (8-13, 3-6 SBC) in a key Sun Belt match. The Apps, still unbeaten in SBC play, find themselves in perhaps a trap match with a Ga South team on a hot streak and looking to steal a rare win over the Mountaineers and some revenge for their football team.
ASU remains in solid possession of second place in the league--still chasing the Red Wolves of Arkansas State (19-1, 10-0 SBC). The showdown between those two teams is still two plus weeks away when they will face each other twice in just five days. For maximum drama, both teams need to keep clean sheets until their first meeting on Nov. 8 at HCC. But I digress. The Apps have to survive the current Georgia road trip and hold the home court until then.
Tonite's match with Ga South is THE match of the year for the Apps--simply because it's the next match on the schedule. It comes against an Eagle team playing its best VB of the season--having won three of its last four matches. The all-time series favors the Black and Gold as the Mountaineers have put together a 29-15 all-time mark against their longtime rivals. The Apps, however, cannot afford a slip; and they should expect a stiff challenge from the Eagles tonite.
