VB #2 Seed in SBC Tourney v. #7 Troy Noon ESPN3

Our Mountaineers finished the 2015 season with a 20-7 overall record, including a 13-3 mark in the conference. That record resulted in a No. 2 tourney seed for the Apps and a noon first serve in a match with the #7 seed Troy Trojans.

In the two teams only face-to-face competition this season, the Apps took a 5 set nail-biter at Troy way back in September. The Apps dropped the first two sets and appeared to be going down, before rallying to take three straight sets and the win.

Mountaineer Super-Seniors Paige Brown, Jess Keller, Emily Corrigan and Meghan Mahoney already have, or are in line to, finish their careers in the ASU Volleyball record book.

The Apps stumbled to three straight losses to end the regular season. The women of Troy were on an eight match win streak before dropping their last match at home. The cream will need to rise to the top again this afternoon for the Apps to keep alive their goal of getting one last shot at *only-once-beaten* Arkansas State. They need to scratch out a win and get their confidence back.

Apps advance 25-13. Arkansas State's team sat directly behind the ASU bench *apparently* trying to intimidate our ladies (only one row of empty seats separating them). That's either smart or bush league depending on one's best interests!

Former ASU and NFL star punter Mark Royals was also nearby supporting the Apps. His freshman daughter, Brooke, wears #33 for the Apps and is the team's setter of the future.

I feel horrible. Just realized that my family had dinner with Mark, his wife and daughter after the first loss to stAte. Was talking to her about the volleyball season. And Mark was discussing how he never gets use to the cold. Never caught on at all. This was just across the table at Makotos.

I assume stAte swept southern tonight but the GsSo gave em all they wanted in the first set. They went on a run and I thought they had a shot at taking the set but stAte stomped it out. Looked like GaSo was having more success with the cross court hits than just straight on. stAte has a freshman with > 300 kills....wow. Hope we get another shot at them. I think they are a great team but looked like if you could keep them on defense they get a lot softer. They have some real weapons if you let them set it up.
