Latrell Gibbs Ineligible for 2016 Season
Bad news for App. Good thing Pinckney is, by all reports, close to if not back to 100%, and that Williams and Hayes got a lot of time last year but this will sting big time, especially against UT and the U. Hope some of the new guys show out in camp as well.

While his absence will hurt, I have confidence the other guys will step up. My sincerest hope is that the academic side of the equation becomes important enough that he buckles down and / or gets the tutoring he needs.

This will be a big loss. 7 ints and likely starting PR man. Can he be replaced? Physically with a body, talent wise...well we have to wait and see. It will hurt most against Miami and Tennessee

Good thing is we probably have more depth at CB at any position besides running back. But still a huge loss nonetheless, he's a fantastic player. One of the best we have

Good to see (according to the tweet) that he can work his way back on the team. Maybe summer school could/will help. Here's hoping he gets any neeeded support and continues to make progress toward a degree.

when was the last time we had an academically ineligible football player? I'm sure it's happened, I just can't recall it....maybe because we haven't lost high profile players. Other than the bball Capel years, I normally think of our athletics dept. doing a great job with the academic side of things. Football has normally been an especially positive sport for student-athlete GPAs, retention, etc.

Probably true, but App academics are more demanding than they were a few years ago.S.Lewis15 wrote:Always hurts to see one of the best players not playing for a reason that could have been avoided.

Can he still practice with team?
Since was never redshirted, any chance this could be a redshirt year? This way he would still have 2 two years if he comes back.

Re: Latrell Gibbs Ineligible for 2016 Season
He is ineligible due to academics, which means he's on academic suspension. Those on academic suspension can only take classes in the summer. Word is he's taking classes back home in GA for the fall semester and, providing he makes the grades, will transfer those credits back to App and will rejoin the team for the spring semester. If he does make it back in this will be his redshirt year as he didn't take one and he'll still have two years left. It's up to him now to buckle down and make the grades.

The classes aren't so demanding that the rest of the players were unable to maintain their own academic eligibility.NewApp wrote:Probably true, but App academics are more demanding than they were a few years ago.S.Lewis15 wrote:Always hurts to see one of the best players not playing for a reason that could have been avoided.
I understand that everyone has their own struggles, but maintaining academic eligibility is your main job as a college student.
I hope he gets everything straightened out and we seem him back on the field in 2017 better than ever.

Not sure if it was the last time, but didn't Jason Hunter miss a year due to academics?app97 wrote:when was the last time we had an academically ineligible football player? I know, have him take some african american studies courses over the summer and he can magically become eligible! Oh snap, wrong school....
