Re: App Sports Streaming Schedule Fall sports with dates and times, must read!! Get those eyes on the teams
Fields hockey will be on Twitch, youtube, and Facebook. Get your grandkids to show you what those are. https://appstatesports.com/news/2023/8/2/athletics-mountaineers-release-2023-fall-streaming-schedule.aspx Ok, I thought the MAC is an ESPN conference just like the SBC, so why can't we and the res...

Re: Alumni Hall officially
Coastal just opened an off campus store in Conway. I have been doing college visits with the oldest daughter of late. And one of the things I found attractive when looking at colleges, and she seems to be attracted to as well, is going to school in a "college town". And one of the markers in my min...

Re: End of year 22-23 , how do you grade it?
The two non-Sun Belt sports had fabulous seasons. Football started exciting but ultimately finished disappointing. Baseball and CC were solid. Everything else, yikes. C- Women's Tennis and Field Hockey solid as well. FH was one of two non-Belt sports, wrestling being the other. Yeah, I led with fie...

What's acceptable for this season? This season? Warm weather, kids at the pool, a week at the beach or better yet, maybe a road trip to Yellowstone. Come fall, I'd expect to see App football get bowl eligible and compete for the conference title, and improvements over last year for App's other team...

Re: Darius Rucker
Interesting the tie in between 'Wagon Wheel' and Boone. Old Crow Medicine Show was busking in downtown Boone when a young lady came over and said her father liked their music and wanted to meet them. Her father was Doc Watson and he invited them to play Merlefest OCMS used to play shows pretty ofte...

Re: The incredible shrinking future of college
A college degree tells an employer that you can apply yourself to a 4-year (+/-) project and successfully complete it. If the degree is in your chosen field that's just a bonus. with exceptions of course. I always say a college degree tells an employer you can show up and turn in a product that sat...

Re: Darius Rucker
My wife just mentioned today that we should get tickets and come up to Boone. While I did see Hootie in town as a student, I'm not particularly interested in seeing him now but any excuse to get to Boone is good enough for me. So maybe we will come on up.

Re: Another haunt bites the dust
It’s funny how every generation on here has their favorite local hangouts. It’s almost like these things change, but with each new generation, more character forms… Yeah, every generation has their places. The only constant is change itself. For example, the only closed place mentioned in the origi...

For one of you legal minds, if there is a coop that's paying the players to pay, is that employment? If it is, are they subject to labor laws, minimum wage, over-time and workers compensation? 1099 guys are still subject to Workers Compensation laws. I am currently both a w2 employee one place and ...

I was able to make a rare visit to Boone this past weekend and had a chance to drive up to the track. It is sure nice for the team to have their own facility. It looked great.

Where would our mens' soccer team play? Is the project at the old Watauga site finished (for soccer and track) ????? Doesn't seem like it would work having to share the present womens' soccer field. They shared a field before. Why couldn't they now? That's correct. According to some on here we didn...

Re: Say "So Long" to the ACC
At one time, I would've been convinced ACC basketball programs would've made any conference split nearly impossible. ...Who knows? I'm not putting stock in this particular report, but generally speaking I agree with this line of thinking. 5 years ago I would have said "no way", but now I'm a bit mo...

Re: Luke Combs and Eric Church Opinions of
I graduated from App and love Carolina. My favorite teams growing up. With that said, App was the best choice for me and it was a fantastic experience. Expect Eric grew up the same. Hating on him for being a Carolina fan is pretty weak. I personally hate just about everything related to the Tar Hol...

Re: App football radio top in NC
I almost exclusively get my App games by streaming the radio broadcast. It is rare that I ever watch - other than watching highlights/condensed games on YouTube afterwards, or the rare Saturday I can devout actually to attending games. I just prefer hearing it while doing other things to sitting and...

Re: Men's Soccer
Maybe we should have eliminated baseball. I would prefer App to sponsor both sports (as well as lacrosse), but considering the baseball season's calender and the Boone weather during that time, eliminating baseball instead of soccer would not have been as crazy an idea as it sounds. There is a reas...

Re: UNC hires 22 year old field hockey star player as next head coach!?!?
I thought Dawson resigned because she and her husband have three young children and that he is the new men's tennis coach at Lehigh. He was the men's tennis coach at App when the program was dropped. Yes, you are correct about Dawson and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Thank you for pointing that...

Re: UNC hires 22 year old field hockey star player as next head coach!?!?
She was their GOAT in that sport. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Really young to be coaching that sport for them given they have been really good in that sport. According to my daughter and her teammates, she isn't just UNC's GOAT, she is everyone's GOAT. It was funny to go to my...

UNC hires 22 year old field hockey star player as next head coach!?!?
I know no one here particularly cares about field hockey, and many here do particularly dislike all things about the baby blues in Chapel Hill, but I found this story interesting and thought I share with others interested in college athletics. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2023/01/31...
