Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

What gets lost with all of this discussion is that (with the exception of about 6 teams) most of college football is cyclical. Just a few years ago the Belt was kind of a joke. The MAC had Western Michigan of all teams vying for a top 10 spot. The PAC12 has been down. Except for Clemson the ACC has...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

If that were the case (2 top teams leaving) App’s incentive would be ECU in state and (assuming they weren’t one of the ones departing) UCF for recruiting. Moving up then would be an ego move not a responsible one. I personally like the Sunbelt and how it’s developed since our arrival. It’s a very ...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

AAC dark horse may be NDSU. They have not wanted to move up previously due to the belief that you can’t win a Natty as a G5, which was/is true. They are arguably a state flagship, carry a strong brand and actually bring good basketball, reaching the tourney 4x since 2009. Fargo is certainly no Hous...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

His saving grace might be that there very possibly may not be any ships left out to P5 land. The top 2/3s of the conference would leave for the B12 in a heartbeat. Hell, I think we would leave for a B12 without Texas and Oklahoma because it would form the next best of the rest conference like the A...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

I could get behind a playoff with AQ for the P5 and AAC (P6?) and a 7th AQ for the best of the other 4. Though my preferred playoff would be a 14 team playoff with 10 AQ with play-in games for the bottom four seeds and double byes for the top 4. For what it’s worth, in this scenario: UAB (6-3) Ball...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

I do not understand why anyone would want to be in the AAC, when you would have the same situation that we are in with the Sunbelt, with a bunch of teams we do not know. When what we really need is to be in a regional conference that students can road trip to while in college. Why chase the rainbow...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

I wonder if a football only AAC invite was ever branched our way. I’d jump at that immediately. Only if there was no way we could be voted out arbitrarily. I could get behind us going to the American for football, VCU for the other sports, and us taking their place in the A-10. Agreed. And to be cl...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

Mark my words, all this will eventually accomplish is setting up a new 1-AA. It’s already been suggested in this thread, an “NIT type tournament” for those who don’t get into the “big dance”. There will be a P5 champ and a G5 champ and we’re back to our rightful little brother status (rightful as i...

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

Seems to me the most fair would be the top 12 teams in the country as of the last poll after all the conference championships have been played. This would effectively maintain the status quo unless they change the selection process (which I don't see them doing). The rankings they use for the CFP a...

Re: Getting some respect on scheduling

BYU is a massive brand. We can play pretend all day, but playing and beating them would be huge. As it was for Coastal last year.

How many G5 teams have their own tv network? BYU does. A home and home with them would be incredible for us.

Re: 12 team playoff? All P5 conference champs to be in, 1 G5 Champ, six at large

12 is fair and one G5 AQ is fair. There’s like, 80 G5 teams, and about 60 of them are dead bodies. Yes, there’s P5 trash like Kansas, Vandy, Oregon State. But for every Kansas there are 10 UTEPs or ULMs. Truthfully with our strength of schedule, it SHOULD require a perfect or near perfect season to ...

Re: JMU Softball

disparaging the FCS doesn't add anything to your argument - while we all understand football is important I thought this was more about the overall program - if JMU is happy with being a top 3 football program every year then that is fine with me - I don't care I liked FCS while we were in it, but ...

Re: JMU Softball

I can't fault JMU for not joining the Sunbelt. I did take it as arrogance years ago, and it likely was but looking at it now it kind of made sense. They're not hurting. Nice looking football stadium, new basketball arena, very nice baseball and softball fields, very nice track complex, although the...

Re: Bleacher Report is high on our backfield...real high

They made their assessment on Harrington being back. That is doubtful and hence would probably bump us down. Still nice to see us included in a list like this. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2943753-ranking-the-best-backfields-for-2021-college-football-season Well we also just landed the young...
