Re: Is it time to rethink the sports we offer ?
I am going to go back to golf because Stonewall is speaking golf often on this thread. It would not kill us if we gave up golf but raising money for golf in the area App is located should be easy. You could literally get each country club in the area to sponsor a golf scholarship. I bet each course...

Re: Is it time to rethink the sports we offer ?
The question was would you notice and not who is winning championships. The fact that they are winning championships and people would not notice is actually kind of telling. Wrestling adds more seats every year and has grown attendance after going to ticketed entry with rising prices. People would ...

Re: Is it time to rethink the sports we offer ?
Just a thought and a question. Not advocating that we drop any programs. If some programs were actually cut other than football, M & W basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and wrestling (and the minimum number of programs was met while still maintaining title 9 numbers) would anyone really n...

Re: Is it time to rethink the sports we offer ?
Just some budgeting numbers to aid the conversation. We don't really make money on paper with sports. Football breaks even or loses a bit. https://knightnewhousedata.org/fbs/sunbelt/appalachian-state-university https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/appalachian-state-university/student-life/sports...

Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
That’s the point. I guess that was my point, too. Stepping up doesn't make one a leader, it just makes one loudest. I have no doubt that there are actual leaders among that group of 100+ young men. Just have to hope they are identified and encouraged. And being the most popular doesn’t make you a l...

Re: September 7, 2024
So if we go 10-2, win the SBC and don’t get into the CFP, you consider the season a failure? I agree with KentHogan, but to answer 94's point, NO it is not an all or nothing result. It is a definite YES if you win the National Championship in any sport, but even if you have a high goal/expectation ...

Re: NC lawmakers to force UNC, NC State to play in-state schools
The bill sets aside $1 million to the Board of Governors to "inform eligible constituent institutions and members of the public about the intrastate athletic competition required" by the act. It would become effective on July 1 if passed. Guess they are going to hire people to go door to door to tel...

Guys who have not proven scuat are not our problem and often may be a soulution. It is the guys who have proven themselves who are our problem, and will continue to be a problem.

Re: Two minute warning, helmet comm approved
And Johnny Unitas called his own plays - drew them up on the field sometimes. Fun to watch. Patrick Mahomes does this with Kelce. Brady used to do it with Gronkowski. How do you think two guys get open so easily, so often? They just run to an open spot, Mahomes or Brady get's it there, and they run...

Re: Another Portal Loss
And there lies the Catch 22. Say Spellman steps up and has a great year. Are we having this same conversation next year? It’s the world we live in. We are never going to have the money to compete with these P5s so I have fully expected it. I just hope we are able to get some good ones from FCS, lik...

Re: Cuts at UNCA
If they become employees I fully expect scholarships to go away. You pay your own tuition at that point. In the long run this could end up cheaper for schools that shelling out for yearly scholarships. I think what you will see more of isn't colleges getting rid of programs, but more athletes skipp...
