Re: GS Beats Florida
Meanwhile, CUSA-bound ODU loses 80-0 in a blowout so bad the refs called the game early. Did they go to a running clock in the 4th qtr? I came home and it was 80 to 20 with a couple of minutes left in the 3rd. Flipped back over shortly thereafter and is was down to 2:00 minutes left. No running clo...

Re: Gonna Miss You Guys
I find "Appy State" to be grating. That said, when I was in school I remember our starting QB wearing an "Appy State Football" shirt in class, so I guess it's not that much of an outsider thing.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
I like the Southern Miss addition for the reasons others have stated - traditionally good program with a fairly recognizable name, but they are absolutely cratering right now. Best of both worlds.

Re: AppHoops: Why Play Lees McCrae?
I went over the history of playing sub-D1's and the myths of not getting big-name schools last year. http://tinyurl.com/cd2re74 IMO, there's no reason to play any sub-D1 during the season. There's the preseason for that. Thanks, that's a good, informative rundown. I believe the supposed inconvenien...

Re: Should App continue playing SoCon schools?
I have no problem scheduling one FCS team per year. Not only does it get us another home game, it gets us what should be an easy win, which we'll need to try and get bowl-eligible. However, the idea of preserving a "rivalry" with any FCS teams - let alone WCU - is laughable. Obviously maintaining su...

Re: AppHoops: Why Play Lees McCrae?
I don't love it either, but I could give App a pass if it were just LMC. But FOUR D2 games in one season almost defies belief. I know it's tough to get good opponents to come to Boone, but surely we can do better than that. When I was a student in the late '90s, we had home games vs. Georgia and a t...

Man, that sucks. Seemed like the Browns might have been willing to give him a real shot.

Re: Ga Southern announces first OOC home FBS game
My preference for a home an home would be FIU or FAU simply from a recruiting standpoint. I doubt USF would do a home and home but I would certainly ask. Agreed. Nothing particularly wrong with WMU, but also hard to see what you gain from playing up there in terms of recruiting, appealing road trip...

That and the fact that it's the best recruiting area in the state and one of the best in the region. App can match the stadium, but we can't match that.GoApps70 wrote:ODU's AD credits their new stadium as locking up the home and homes, seven total game with three in Norfolk with Virginia Tech.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Recruits can sign early enrollment papers for January already, right? Wonder if App will publicly announce any of those or wait until they're enrolled.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
It's regional and for purely economic reasons, I guess it's good, but ODU really does not move my needle and I wouldn't categorize it as "huge." I hope the other announcement is more exciting or I'd say this was a bit overhyped according to the thread title. This sums up my feelings as well. It's f...

So, back on topic. Is there any indication of when this news will be made? I anxiously awaiting an announcement. Anything...anyone... Well not sure if you saw the article from last week that was linked earlier in the thread, but that said "probably within the next two or three weeks" according to t...

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
A big problem shared by the SunBelt and the MAC is we can't hang on to good coaches. As soon as a coach has a couple winning seasons he moves to a larger program, usually one of the P5 schools. That's a problem that is shared by all but about 15-20 programs in America. And let's face it, another pr...

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
This is not meant to belittle any school or any fan --- I would say the huge majority of our fans who attend games would not know the difference or really care if we had home games with Central Michigan or LA-Lafayette, Ohio or New Hampshire or Delaware, Buffalo or Akron or Towson. Texas St or Sam ...

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
The two teams that I would most like to see us schedule would be Marshall and Charlotte. The Sun Belt doesn't provide any name opponents or geographical rivals (outside of GSU), so I think both of those would generate a lot of fan interest. There's nothing compelling about UNCC as far as their "nam...

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Also, re: the ECU speculation: When I said my top two opponents would be Marshall and UNCC, I assume it goes without saying that all of the other in-state FBS schools would be in that mix as well. I assume UNC, State and Duke would likely be occasional opponents at best. But regular or semi-regular ...
