Great point. AE ran it all the way back to their 12 yard line. DeAngelo Williams scored on the very next play. I consider that the game winning TD. It made the score 41-24. The final was 44-38, so AE's return sat up the winning score IMO.
I didn't mean anything bad in my original post about the punter running him out of bounds, he had a good angle on him, but you could see the players joking with him about it immediately after the play.
I would not mind watching AE run 'Long returns' and get ran out of bounds by the kickers for many years to come...and I would especially love it if Armanti was playing for the Redskins. :D

He did have a good return yesterday, but the fact is he was caught by a punter. I think if everyone takes off their black and gold glasses, they will see that his time with the Panthers and probably in the NFL is over. I see him going to the CFL and being successful, but not in the NFL. I hope I am wrong, but I dont think I am.

It did look bad that he was caught by the punter but he was in a crowd during the chase due to lack of blocking and had little where to go. At least that's what I remeber. Someone needs to jack up the punt return blockers.
I agree that it doesn't look very good as to his chances of remaining in the NFL, Panthers or not. One problem is that we haven't had much luck with the CFL of recent since when Richie Williams got cut.

I have to keep my B & G colored glasses on here. Separate on his routes? I believe he is mostly in there to provide down-field blocking. Sure, the punter ran him down but as was previously mentioned, he did not fumble and his return did cover 69 yards and set up a touchdown. He is a solid but not spectacular KR/PR. He apparently lacks elite speed. If he hangs around the league I view him as potential Hines Ward type player. A winner that make his team better.

Considering that Hines Ward is on his way to the hall of fame I think that might be setting the bar a bit too high. Granted I would love to see AE turn in to that type of player, I'm not sure he has that in him. I've watched most of the games he has been in and caught the replays of other touches and after 3 years I still don't see that killer instinct that made him so formidable at App. Yes the people around him and his opponents are now all incredible athletes but that doesn't mean he had to lose that killer instinct. In this return for example all he does is a somewhat pitiful stiff arm. When you get as few shots as he does he should have taken that punter out instead of giving in like that. That isn't the AE that we all watched on the mountain. If he never regains that killer instinct I think that will be the biggest reason that he doesn't make it. If he can somehow rekindle that then I think he could make a decent career out of it.

Speed was not the reason Armanti failed to score on the punt return. It appeared endurance was the real issue. For a short period he showed a great burst of acceleration and speed in order to separate himself from the would-be tacklers. Once he got past the coverage, he appeared to slow down, which gave the punter an opportunity to push Armanti out of bounds.

I'd also like to point out that, even though punters/kickers are "pro-athletes" they are in no way close to the athletic caliber of a skill player. That's why players get such crap for getting tackled by a kicker or punter, because they are almost always the least athletic players on the team.

I guess we must have watched different games. When he ran pass routes he couldnt get open. If you think he is anywhere near Hines Ward, then you have two pairs of B and G glasses on. I like Armanti, he was great for App, but its the NFL and if you dont produce, then the NFL means Not For Long.

I will grant you this, if Armanti is not seeing the field because the very average Louis Murphy is in his way, there must be more to the story than what I am seeing with these shades on.

Who had the longest kick-off return for the Panthers this season? - Armanti
Who had the longest punt return for the Panthers this season? - Armanti
Who had the longest pass reception for the Panthers this season? - Armanti

When you get limited touches and limited PT the pressure is immense. I am sure there is nothing fun about the experience AE has had so far in the NFL. He is constantly working his ass off in practice trying to get better and is part of a very weak special teams unit come game time. He will not get better until he is in a situation where he is relied on to pdoduce and is the target of more than one pass per game. Watch any NFL game and you will see the league elite drop passes, fumble, screw up routes etc. What if that screw up meant that they got yanked. That is where AE sits right now. His progress is incredible given his situation. He is not needed where he is right now. I want him to be traded to a team that needs him.

I can think of 1.9 million reasons why his job kicks butt. If it isn't fun enough for him he can go cry in a wad of Ben Franklins.

He has shown enough that I think he can get one more minimum salary contract after this one as a back up or a PR/KR.

Also.....Armanti ran the ball about 50 yards while the punter really didn't run until Armanti got within 10-20 yards of him. Armanti was getting tired and the punter just started running. It was still a great run and I'm h"APPY" for him and the Panthers.
