Re: Doug Middleton 2017 Camp
Really bad break for Doug. He was cut by the Jets today after tearing a pectoral muscle in their preseason opener against Tennessee Saturday. He was playing with the 2's and was in for 55 plays before getting injured. Looked like a pretty sure bet to make the team this year. Prayers for him and hope he can get healed up and make it back soon.

I wonder if he's had surgery for the repair. This sounds like a tough, six-month road back. Godspeed, Doug!

A little research re: Doug
Up until the first cut-down day, injured non-vested players must be placed on waivers through the waived/injured designation before being placed on injured reserve. This prevents teams from stashing young players on injured reserve. Once a waived/injured player clears waivers, he reverts to the team's IR.
*After the first cut-down day, teams can use the waived/injured designation or they can place a player directly on IR.
*NFL players receive 1/17th of their salary each week during the season. So, players on injured reserve receive 1/17th of their salary each week they're on IR during the season.
But players may not receive their full salary while on IR because many non-vested players have split contracts. Players on split contracts will receive their full salary if they're on the 53-man roster and a lower split if they're on injured reserve. For a rookie making the league minimum, the difference would be 1/17th of $450,000 each week on the active roster and 1/17th of $330,000 each week on IR.

Yep Rek, I was aware of that rule. I figured he would be put on IR given his position at the time he was injured. I was just going as it happened. I didn't have time to explain the rules at the time I posted it as I was tied up on several other things. I appreciate you putting it up.

Re: Doug Middleton 2017 Camp
Not now. What happens a lot of times is if a player, during this time of year, is put on IR and they find someone they like better to fill his spot then as soon as they are removed from IR during or after the season then they will cut them. See that a lot of times in the spring for someone who is out for the season. As I said, from all the reports I had seen, Doug was in a solid position to make the roster as a 2. I know reports this time of year are subjective but in the first preseason game the starters usually play one or two series at the most and then mostly 2's finish out the half. Then they start working in the next groups. He was mostly with the 2's when it happened. We'll see how it works out but if he can come back to 100% then if the Jets don't take him back then I think he'll get picked up by someone.
Just hope he can get back to full strength. Not a good injury for an in space defender to get.
