The Colts have placed Corey Lynch on IR. I hope it isnt anything too bad. I fear this may be his last run at the NFL.

It's not a hopeful sign. This is the time he should be making good impressions. On a more positive note, Corey is a seven year NFL vet. He's beyond the average NFL player's career which is reported to be between three years and six years depending on the source you want to quote.

Very smart and Christian kid. He has his degree to fall back on after football.

Doesn't that mean he is also vested in the NFL?

Help me out here, I know if a player is placed on IR during the year, that player is out for the rest of the year. Does that hold true even if the season hasn't started? :?: :?:

Yep he is done for the season. He will probably get some injury settlement and I would doubt he will playa again.

Very true. I was once told years ago, "One can marry more money in fifteen minutes than one can make in a lifetime."

If I understand the rule correctly - you are right - however if the player does receive a injury settlement and released he CAN play for another team that season - since it hasn't been disclosed what Corey's injury was I don't know if this is possible or not for him if he's released ---

We don't know how serious Corey's injury is...and ultimately that will determine his future in football. The Colts were obviously not optimistic, since they shut him down for the year. As soon as they think he's well on the mend, they'll release him to to get him off their payroll. And off their benefits plan.

The Lions did that same thing to a former ASU running back a few years ago (I simply can recall who it was); and the Washington "No Mascot" team dropped John Settle the same way the year following his Pro-Bowl season. The NFL's an ugly, ugly business at times.

At this point it's probably a numbers game. Putting him on IR allows them to bring in another body for OTAs. The Colts have a couple of options at his point. Depending on the injury, he can't be released until he is healthy. They can also transfer him to the PUP list which would allow him to play after week 6. A team can only have one player with this designation so it would be too early to fill that spot with a backup.

Corey was taken off IR by the Colts and cut --- still haven't seen what his injury is/was ---
