Re: Memphis Attempt to Enter Big 12
Memphis has the money to not need the Sun Belt, Pack12, or the American. They must see themselves as much bigger than others see them. Now we understand why they said no to the PAC12.

I kind of figured Memphis would end up in whatever becomes of the ACC in the long run.

Think there will eventually be P3 or P4, then like G7.AppWyo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:56 pmThe American tried to be P6, but ended up being G6.hapapp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 1:56 pmhttps://x.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/1947358520661196985

Re: Memphis Attempt to Enter Big 12
What will happen eventually is that these super conferences will all fall apart like they always have. They just get too big to manage or one group thinks they can make more money in a smaller conference. Look at who were once in the SoCon. Basically, the ACC, SEC and four teams in the SBC.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 6:33 pmThink there will eventually be P3 or P4, then like G7.AppWyo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:56 pmThe American tried to be P6, but ended up being G6.hapapp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 1:56 pmhttps://x.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/1947358520661196985

Re: Memphis Attempt to Enter Big 12
My two takeaways:
1. I feel for them. They’ve performed in athletics. 2x runner up in the NCAAB tournament. Played in NY6 bowls. Put some legit dudes in the pros. Reasonably large tv market. THROWING a money at a “barely P4” conference, yet stuck surrounded by a bunch of never-will-be’s. Watched almost all of their conference buddies graduate to greener pastures. Gotta suck.
2. Kinda cements my position on where we can go. I’m a big believer in “knowing who you are”. Doesn’t mean we can’t dream. But if Memphis can’t break through the ceiling given what they’ve done and the money they offered, I think it’s fair to say we need to be happy and build in the Sun Belt. Something I’m in favor of.

I agree. Sort of like when you do not own a pool, beach house, boat, lake house, mountain house, box seats, yacht, or member ship at the country club, but your friends do and occasionally invite you over to come along. All the SBC really needs is a way to get in the CFP and we will be sitting pretty...ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 7:25 pmMy two takeaways:

Re: Memphis Attempt to Enter Big 12
There might be a P2 or even one mega league. At some point schools like UGA, Alabama, etc are going to look around and wonder why they are sharing revenue with Miss State, Kentucky, etc when they don't draw nearly what the elites do. Same will happen in the Big Ten. They will decide there is no reason to share with Purdue, Rutgers, etc.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 6:33 pmThink there will eventually be P3 or P4, then like G7.AppWyo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:56 pmThe American tried to be P6, but ended up being G6.hapapp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 1:56 pmhttps://x.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/1947358520661196985

The question for Memphis is if they would take the Pac-12 or what they would do in a few years if the ACC and Big 12 won't take them.

Re: Memphis Attempt to Enter Big 12
Funny how the American is trying to rebrand itself the SBC.
If you notice the school's logos at the bottom, the most prominent is the Charlotte C logo. I think Charlotte did the best job of getting a new logo right.
Appalachian's block A logo has been right since 1989, thank you Jerry Moore.
When are we going to see a gold block A like the one on the license plate on the football helmet? It might be it has been tried and just does not look good at all.

That was my first thought as well. Doesn’t make it any less cringe coming from them. Hopefully for their sake they don’t make a spoken word commercial.
