I don't wish him any will but I also will not pay him any attention. We gave a Juco a chance to play ball and his thanks was to leave. Not at all uncommon these days. If you leave I just don't care anymore . No ill will, you are just gone.

Terrible take. Joey graduated from App and for grad school thought he had a chance to play very close to home.

Transfers like Joey aren't in the top 50 sour grape moves in the last three years of this program.

Ill be happy to pull for Joey to do well. If he succeeds at an SEC school, it speaks to the lack of talent disparity between so called P2s and top G5 schools in some instances. Obviously the depth gap is immense, bit G5s have some legit players that can and do succeed at that level.

Hopefully there will be a bunch of “the former App State QB” references during the game. I typically hate those but I’ll take this one.

The situation with Joey isn't the norm, though. His eligibility was exhausted and we had already brought in his replacement (potential) from the portal before the ruling was made that he would have another year. Both sides had moved on. I'm not trying to tell how they should feel. It's your right to have any opinion you want. I just see no reason to hold his decision against him....even before considering the huge pay day he's getting.

Joey's leaving was a product of using up his eligibilty initially. We had actually moved on before the ruling that allowed him an extra year. For the record, he completed graduation requirements after he left App.

Why wouldn't App folks root for Joey Dimes? He gave his all for Appalachian State and got a chance to move up to AAA ball. Do we stop rooting for App players when they go to the NFL? To me, it's pretty much the same thing.
I like your SEC level AAA semi pro ball analogy, where do you consider APP in the minors?

A or AA level?

I'd put us in Single A
Nah, I'd say App is AA. In my mind, P4 is AAA, any FBS school I'd consider AA even though there's various levels of success, and FCS would be single A.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion on this. But I look at it a little differently. Joey’s at a top-tier school in a top-tier conference. In this day and age, how much different is that than him being in the pros in terms of visibility?

Did he give us some good seasons? Yes. If he succeeds, does it add luster to App State football’s reputation? Yes. He will always be one of us…maybe we can cut the kid some slack?
