The last time I was on UNCC's campus was when ASU played them in basketball. I was there with my wife and their fans were almost as bad as GSU fans (at least GSU is a rival). We were taunted, yelled and cursed at, and not just in the stands (not in the student section), but on our way to the car in the parking deck. Even had a group gather around my Jeep on the way out yelling about how badly ASU sucks.
I don't necessarily have anything against UNCC as an institution, but because of my personal experiences with their fans, I will pull for them to lose every game they play.

Re: UNCC sees recruiting boost
My question is, if we move up to FBS sooner rather than later and that move happens before UNCC has some winning seasons under its belt and we bring a program that is known for winning to the recruiting table will it be harder for them to recruit over us? Almost a complete reverse of what we have now. This is all hypothetical just throwing it out their

Re: UNCC sees recruiting boost
We will not see a noticeable impact on recruiting as a result of UNCC unless we take to long to secure FBS status. This is just one more school, people. We recruit against 50 better schools and 50 worse schools every year and we've done so for 80+ years. I refuse to believe that one new program is going to utterly doom Appalachian football as most UNCC fans think. They are a drop in the bucket.
We've historically gotten our players from Georgia and SC. Even this year, after Satterfield voiced his commitment to recruiting heavily in our home state, only 3 of 16 recruits this year are from North Carolina.
Move along people, nothing to see here.

I agree. My point was to show that not everyone that disses UNCC does so because they will eventually join CUSA. There are multiple reasons to despise UNCC.hapapp wrote:Don't misunderstand me. Amen, Hapapp! I don't know when App adopted such an elitest attitude toward sister institutions. I am as proud of my diploma from App as anyone on this board, and I believe the education that I received was second to none (including UNC). That being said, in 1980 Appalachian had exactly the reputation that many on here are denouncing others for. It was a "backup" option for many of the students who chose it. Even then, we were known for having excellent programs in music, education and a few other areas (not intended to be an exhaustive list), but admission standards (SAT & GPA) were well below those for UNC, NCSU and several others. That gap began closing in the 90's and the gap effectively slammed shut with the increase in apps during our football run (2005 - 2007). We really haven't looked back since.hapapp wrote:So, should the folks at NC State, UNC-CH, UNC-A, and UNC-W look down on us?
In reality folks are focusing on Charlotte's lower SAT scores as a veiled effort to discredit whatever they happen to do on the football field. I never thought that most App fans were elitists.
I know that I have hired UNCC alums here at Bank of America and I've never noticed them being deficient in any way. They have a good business program. They also have a good engineering program and a solid nursing school. Those are the undergrad programs that I have some knowledge about. I just don't see the need to trash another university with these overblown generalizations. I personally consider UNCC to be a peer insititution, and I see us benefiting from improving athletic relations with them....not estranging ourselves. Is their recruiting list inflated? Sure it is, but we don't need to be casting stones. Let's enjoy our own success and meet them on the field sometime soon. That's where these debates should be settled.
Just my two cents.

Uh, no. Because all but UNC-CH have lower or similar admission standards....hapapp wrote:So, should the folks at NC State, UNC-CH, UNC-A, and UNC-W look down on us?
If you don't hate UNCC fans, you haven't interacted with them on AGS/CSNBBS/Appfan. Now THAT is groundless elitism if I've ever seen it.

WHEN the field is lowered? I think IF the field is lowered. Removing the track does not guarantee the field will be lowered? Lowering the field is a VERY expensive proposition. There are much cheaper ways of adding seats.Rekdiver wrote:Are you kidding?
We could make a horseshoe with seating on the mountain side and keep it below the trees, deck the East side, add lower seats when the filed is lowered and more seating on the open end where the old field house is. We could get to 40to 50k easily without spoiling the views......

Of course we are in competition. I completely agree. We compete for students, and in some cases on the athletic field. I just don't think that should include trashing the reputation of the institutions at every opportunity. App can and does compete on the strength of our own programs. There is no need to tear down other institutions.HeffnerIV wrote:I respect your opinions above, and it's certainly an objective one. Agreed. We'll do our talking with our performance. I'll say one thing though, and anyone who knows me can attest to my feelings on this, we better start thinking about ways we can help young Apps professionally. In other words, 'keep it in the family' as much as possible!Yosef84 wrote:Of course we are in competition. I completely agree. We compete for students, and in some cases on the athletic field. Re: UNCC sees recruiting boost
I met a girl that is an English professor at UNCC and App State grad. When I asked about the academics there she laughed and said the curriculum at UNCC is a joke, and she was almost embarrassed that she had to teach such easy classes. She even went as far as to say the courses she taught at CPCC were more demanding than UNCC. To be fair she did say some of the professional college's such as engineering were very good but that’s about it.
At the very least this means they will be able to get some guys in school that we would have no chance of getting through admissions.
