Nobody they could have put at 4 was laying a glove on Bama.

Re: Cincinnati - Georgia
I just don’t see the rationale for this. If a kid’s going to go to Florida or Penn State or wherever because he thinks he can have a “pathway to a championship” at 8, why not go there now? Either way, your pathway goes through one or more of Bama/Clemson/OSU; otherwise an expanded playoff is just a pathway to an extra butt-kicking.Rick83 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 8:37 pmPerhaps, but many "experts" think expanded playoffs might lead to more dispersion of top talent if there are other pathways to a national championship other than the big 2 or 3. As opposed to the current format which seems to be causing concentrations of top talent.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 8:18 pmDoesn't matter how many teams you put in the playoffs. 9 times out of 10 the final 2 will be Alabama and Clemson.
I could, however, see it improving G5 recruiting.

I think the rationale is because, although it's true that Florida and Penn State technically have a pathway to the championship, due to the format they effectively don't. The 4 team format has resulted in a small group favored by the CFP committee which has kids seeing the same handful of teams selected each year for playoff inclusion. So, if you want to participate in the playoffs you'd better go to one of those few schools assuming you're a top tier talent.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:57 amI just don’t see the rationale for this. There's another wild card about to hit, and that's the NIL (name, image, and likeness). If this becomes allowable it's possible that you could see a dispersion of top talent among more teams as well as players could earn money for their image, etc. A top talent who's buried in the depth chart for 2 or 3 years at Clemson or Alabama could be giving up money by not going elsewhere and getting on the field sooner. Remains to be seen and I wonder if the NIL would help or hurt programs like ours. My gut tells me it'd help if top talent gets spread around but hard to determine at this point.
I hope that whatever is coming down the pike that we're in a position to take advantage and keep moving our program forward.

Apparently Ohio State took Dabos coaches ranking personally. Lol
If Ohio State was 11th what would that make Clemson. Ouch

Re: Cincinnati - Georgia
I see this argument made every year against expansion. It doesn’t hold water as there has been a blowout EVERY SINGLE YEAR since the inception of the College Football Invitational. Expansion would not change anything that does not already happen annually except give additional programs a shot.
If fans are against lopsided games, tOSU, Clemson, Bama, OU and ND, amongst others, should no longer receive an invite as they’ve all been sandpapered at least once in the “playoffs.”

I think this is a great argument for including a G5 in the playoffs, but not for expansion. The fact that there aren’t even four teams in the top tier most years doesn’t suggest to me that we should schedule MORE blowouts.moonshine wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:33 amI see this argument made every year against expansion. As far as playoff expansion or not...if you're not going to change up some variables in a formula you're likely to keep getting the same results. So why not try changing up some variables? It'd be good for college football in general in my opinion.

SEC schools have never lost a bowl game, just played in some their players weren’t interested in.
Just ask their fans.

Re: Cincinnati - Georgia
But if we are being honest, the A5 is not going to give up a $lot in the current format which only leaves the option of expansion for a G to gain access. As for scheduling more blowouts, I doubt anyone predicted any of those aforementioned blue chippers catching a beat down in the playoffs aside from ND and Washington. To me, the point is access for the opportunity and nothing more.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:46 amI think this is a great argument for including a G5 in the playoffs, but not for expansion.
