A&M isn’t likely to make the same mistake twice regarding contracts. Granted, anybody that goes there will likely get a pay raise, but the AD has said that there will be more backloaded incentives rather than guaranteed money.

Re: Cignetti
I am sure Spurrier said he liked Dook until Florida made it rain money. I do not have issues with any coach taking money. It is life changing. If not this year, I would be surprised if Elko is still at Dook in 3; years. Although it pains me to say this since Dook, he is a good coach..if he had depth at QB when Leonard got hurt, there season would have been even better than it has been.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 10:54 amA&M isn’t likely to make the same mistake twice regarding contracts. Re: Cignetti
According to FootballScoop, Indiana sees Cignetti as a "top target" for its next head coach.
"With Cignetti having such a great season with the Dukes, it's likely that Indiana won't be the only team interested in him."

Buzz was also promised a lot from AD CC and co.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:53 pm“ANYBODY in that situation being asked that question would have said what Cig did, "Yes I am here to stay". “
That’s what Buzz said.
Then those promises went unfulfilled. Wilmington came calling and worked a hard deal that doubled his salary.
If CC had realized what he had, and not broke promises I highly suspect the 8 or so years of failed experiments would not have happened.
Then you had people CC listened to for idiotic reasons that said hire a Tarheel who had 1 year of very limited coaching experience. Could have had Matt McMahon.

Wonder who he takes with him? JMU fans having to cope the last 48 hours has been pretty fun to see.goapps93 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 1:25 pmHe gone. (Likely)

Re: Cignetti
It's just hard to imagine that Indiana is where someone would want to go..... hopefully he's making bank (which I'm sure he is) and hopefully it's a stepping stone. That's just not a football school. Maybe he can turn that around.

He has a chance to make millions and regardless if he does well or not he is now set for life. If I were him I would do my best and not worry because regardless he is set. The purpose of a job is to make money and have retirement. He has now secured that retirement funding.

Re: Cignetti
Reports are that it is official and Cignetti is gone to Indiana. Now the Dukes will have to try to successfully manage a coaching change as so many of the top Sun Belt teams have had to endure.

Mark Cuban just sold his stake in the Dallas Mavs for $3.5B. Perhaps he is throwing (more) sacks of cash to IU.

And with an outgoing AD. So whoever gets hired, won’t know who his boss will be after May.t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:50 pmReports are that it is official and Cignetti is gone to Indiana. If Duke offered Clark 5 or 6 million a year to coach, and he turned that down, then we probably should have his head examined.

I couldn't imagine any NFL caliber coach wanting to work for Panthers owner David Tepper. He owns an NFL and MLS team and has apparently fired four coaches in 18 months. The guy is volatile.

If there is an exodus of JMU players due to the coaching change, you think App would be able to poach some of them?t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:50 pmReports are that it is official and Cignetti is gone to Indiana. Re: Cignetti
Cignetti is kind of a late bloomer…. there were only going to be so many chances for him to move up…. he’s 62 and now is one of those times. His system should fit well at Indiana. He won’t compete with the top of the conference, but there is no reason that he wouldn’t be able to turn them into another Wisconsin…. oh and make lots of $ millions doing it. I’d guess he’ll start around $5M…. or so.

Re: Cignetti
these are very rare people.
I don't make as much as much as big time football coaches, but i've moved jobs for 30% raises, much less 300%. Yeah Bloomington isn't Harrisonburg, but now Cignetti can contemplate the differences in locales while he's on a private plane flying to somewhere nicer than both.

Re: Cignetti
Indiana is not what I expected, but knew he would be leaving after this season. Far from the end of his coaching career. Mentioned it himself he wants to coach until 75. Knew that wouldn't be forever with JMU. What better time than now to accept an offer?
