The latter.ASU-FTW wrote:I'm pretty sure those who are saying "good riddance" and such are either jealous/butt-hurt that we are weakening the SoCon, or, they are glad they won't have to lose to us anymore.
They think our leaving will make it easier to reach the top of the SoCon and then become desirable to FBS conferences. They keep forgetting that all the other teams in the conference also finished above them, so they have to pass them too.Robert Norton wrote:They can now finish 7th instead of 9th.
I don,'t understand the put down of the SoCon. It was a great home for us. I'm excited about the move, but it makes no sense for most of the SoCon schools to pursue FBS status. It doesn't make them losers. They are where they should be.BeauFoster wrote:This is exactly why they will always be a bunch of losers...they have no aspiration, no drive. They are excited to now play in a weaker conference, because it may mean they win more. That's a losers mentality. Winners want to play the best and strongest competition.
You're missing my point entirely. The can't fans are excited that the conference got weaker - that's a quote from several on their board. They actually want to play in a conference without the two historically strongest teams, because it means they have a better chance of winning. It's akin to saying that we should drop to DII so that we will dominate. I wasn't bashing the SoCon, I'm bashing their fans for being spineless.hapapp wrote:I don,'t understand the put down of the SoCon. It was a great home for us. I think the reactions of the WCU fans are the same as what you get when any relationship ends from a one sided decision. The "injured" party defends what's left of their pride by assuming the position that "I'm glad...didn't like you here anyway." Of course, in the case of the App/WCU relationship (a once great rivalry on the gridiron), the relationship had descended into a one sided thing. WCU has endured public struggles while App has climbed to the top. Let's face it, App fans (particularly on these boards) have treated WCU fans like crap in recent years, and some seem to take every opportunity to rub their nose in their misfortune. All I'm saying is that, if the roles were reversed, we would probably react the same. What would you expect....a tears and begging us not to go?BeauFoster wrote:You're missing my point entirely. I'm definitely guilty of the first part and I totally agree on the second one.Yosef84 wrote:I think the reactions of the WCU fans are the same as what you get when any relationship ends from a one sided decision. I have been in favor of this move for a long time. I even saw potential in the SBC before some others were willing to consider it an option. Still, the SoCon has been a good home and I'm proud of our history with the conference. I will continue to follow SoCon sports to some degree and yes....I'll even pull for WCU to climb back to the top. They are a sister school and they now boast a coaching staff that is heavy with App influence (football). Just my two cents worth.
Their derision of us by the Catamounts doesn't come any where near the magnitude of what MANY Apps pile on them. Some of the App fans make us look like the lowest class fans in the country. App fans used to seem as classy as any other fandom in the country, but the actions of a FEW have tarnished our image in serious way.. I fear we may get our come uppance at least temporarily in FBS.ASU-FTW wrote:Their fans talk just as much crap about App at every opportunity they get. Currently one of their posters is trying to get a 'boycott ASU' movement going.
Kudos to you for being one of the few of us who admits it. I've never dissesd WCU. I save my venom for the Phoenix lolkiddbrewer wrote:I'm definitely guilty of the first part and I totally agree on the second one.Yosef84 wrote:I think the reactions of the WCU fans are the same as what you get when any relationship ends from a one sided decision. You're letting your love of purple cloud your vision. The only reason that it appears that we pile on them is that there are 2000x more App fans active on Internet message boards than wcu fans. TheCats and madhatter (or whatever his name is on AGS) come to mind as two of the biggest App haters (though they could be one in the same).JCline0429 wrote:Their derision of us by the Catamounts doesn't come any where near the magnitude of what MANY Apps pile on them. Boycott, ha. That has nothing but envy written all over it. If it wasn't green envy he would have included Georgia Southern as well. Anyway, I agree I hope they dwell in the cellar for all eternity.ASU-FTW wrote:Their fans talk just as much crap about App at every opportunity they get.
