The courts are methodically ripping up the ncaa a piece at a time.

No huge fan of a lot of what the NCAA has done or is proposing but having no real governing body over college sports will be the end of any real competition. I’ll keep saying it, they better find a way to govern it like pro sports. The professional leagues know they need competitive games or folks will lose interest. It will be no different with college sports. How many eyes will ESPN lose if there are only a handful of teams that simply beat the crap out of everyone else?

So basically any college athlete can transfer every year if they wish?

Sounds like 3 times or more per year. If someone challenges it in court they will lose. We might get trades/transfers like in Baseball in the middle of the season.

It’s like any other student. Now hopefully schools uphold their academic requirements for transfer.

I’m surprised no one has tried to go after eligibility years recently. If I can be in undergrad for 7 years….well why can’t an athlete participate in an extracurricular activity all 7 years they’re in undergrad

Exactly, nothing will be off limits. It will be even a bigger mess than it already has become, eventually Congress will have to act and give them the anti trust exemption.

college football is dead, anyway

can't wait to watch the same rich schools buy championship after championship

kid from Ole Miss showed up recently in a Lambo

money + unlimited transfer potential = professional sport

If the new future is what CFB have going on now...I will lose interest quickly. I don't know that a split solves it. I truly don't see an answer. The IVY league is doing something different. I wonder if a group of conferences can make their own rules and turn it back to college football like the IVY league did with no athletic scholarships. I would love to be associated with the IVY league.

Agreed, and tell me a sport, that pays players, is Uber successful, that ISNT the highest level of that sport? triple A baseball, CFL/XFL, American Hockey League, G League? College football/Basketball has arrived at the beginning of the end. People will still watch, but in a decade or so, never like it once was, watch and see. Greed kills.

Kid will be broke by 30, and working an hourly job, if he works

Congress should not be involved in sports.

College Athletics needs to self govern for their own good or else they will self implode and become irrelevant. It’s that simple.

As someone who has invested way into six figures into our athletes educations over the past years , decades , at some point I will likely walk away. It has been a great ride …

ALL professional sports have long ago concluded that some parity in spending/resources as opposed to large differences in spending/resources is in the best interest of the product and survival of the league.

College Football hasn’t figured that out yet.

The problem is that without an anti trust exemption, they can't self govern because it is an unlawful monopoly as the Supreme Court has ruled. So that leaves only 2 options, an anti trust exemption (think MLB) or a collective bargaining situation (think NFL). To accomplish collective bargaining would take a significant effort and even then its hard to see how a "student athlete group/union" could effectively represent all the different types of sports and divisions throughout colleges sports. I generally agree with you, Congress should not be involved in sports but I really see it as the most practical way to return a level of governance to the NCAA. Without it, we all see what's going on and can probably predict future problems. The Alston case really gutted the NCAA power structure.

That's because technically college football isn't the entity that is concerned with survival, the colleges are.

The problem is the BIG boys may not include us. They like their losers to beat up for the money.

I still can't believe politicians from smaller schools haven't defended the smaller schools.... OK State got crushed... Stanford crushed... Wake, Duke, VA tech, Uconn, Pitt, Vanderbilt, ...... how many small schools will become perennial LOSERS

Great idea to get the government involved. They do such a great job with everything else. I really don't see how you turn this train around. Lawsuits will be the rule of the day.

Courts are trying to dictate the way we govern, how we govern, and who can govern..... They love putting their noses in just about everything. Why not sports!
