Virginia law allows schools to pay athletes for NIL

So university funds can go into it. Now it's not even just school fees, now it can be our tax dollars. I hope this gets nuked with so many lawsuits that it breaks the system. It's one thing if some millionaire wants to buy a player with NIL but I'll be damned if tax money or student athletic fees are going to pay mercenary professional athletes.

At every turn we continue to push the cost of "higher" education higher.
Jimmy - Why is tuition so expensive?
Jimmy's Dad - Well Jimmy you see dorms rooms used to be cinder block rooms you shared with another person that had two common bathrooms/showers per floor, now it's an arms race for suite style living that unless you're in the top 5% of your class you'll not experience living quarters that nice again until you're in your 30's. Oh and we also have to pay top dollar for your evening and weekend entertainment professionals.
Assuming Jimmy's parents haven't fully funded his 529 plan to pay the increased cost Jimmy can enjoy paying off the next four years over the next 20 with the exception of a politician (either party for those that will get upset) attempting to buy his vote.

Not to mention Virginia allows among, if not the, highest student fees in the nation too... Student loans and tax dollars can now go towards funding NIL for student athletes...

Not Virginia related by G5 NIL related.
FedEx giving Memphis $5M/year for NIL for 5 years. Guess it helps to have a major backing behind a program. Ingles, who do we have that we could use corporate NIL for?

That is actually what we could use...a FedEx type partner. Have not viewed financials... thinking Ingles margins are maybe too thin for that type of money.

There was no way NIL was ever going to benefit college athletics, and will benefit very few athletes.

Everyone wants to have a competitive advantage. Most believe more money would give them that advantage. Some schools have always had a competitive advantage. What is Appalachian's competitive advantage? because it has never been money.

Fast forward...
Jimmy gets his dorm assignment, and finds he didn't get one of the newest or recently renovated dorms, yet still paying the same price.
Jimmy's Dad - Hey son, let's go to Walmart/Target to spend more money on a fan, because your dorm doesn't have A/C.

More recently I would say facilities, which indirectly I guess could be counted as "money". I think at the G5 levels, NIL isn't a difference maker or a huge competitive advantage. It's the community support, student support, facilities, vibes of the town/city, and of course winning always helps.

So this is interesting. NIL from a state government agency. While I applaud trying to support a local cause, that brings back the issue of tax money being used to buy college mercenaries.
