Wonder if he heads back to LouisianaAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 4:42 pmThe interesting I saw on this is that he gets half of buyout right away and still gets it even if he lands another job. The moral we need to teach our kids from these firings is that they need to strive to become a fired head football coach in the SEC, ACC, or Big Ten.
And that’s why G5 coaches need to take any head coaching job they can get in the P4. Unless they violate their contract they will get life changing money.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 4:42 pmThe interesting I saw on this is that he gets half of buyout right away and still gets it even if he lands another job. Billy set the tone there and everyone liked it. Changed the culture to one of character and responsibility. Everyone liked Billy there, he just didn't win.
Napier was a major issue, there are others but he was a very very big one. The guy just isn't that good of a coach. He shined at ULL only after they exerted resources that nobody else in the Sun Belt could match. They had 19 analysts on the staff at ULL, we had 1-2 at the same time. They were able to prepare better because they had more eyes on everything and they still almost blew games. I told everyone down here when he got hired that it was a bad hire because nobody out resources anyone else in the SEC. I explained that he will consistently make bad play calls in every game and if the other team is good enough to take advantage of those bad calls that it will cost them football games. That is exactly what happened. He is a bad in game coach, and you can't do that in the SEC. Think about this one, Billy is the only full time coach at UF since the 1940s to have a lower than .500 winning percentage. Most are over .600 and yet he couldn't win half the games he coached. Make no mistake, Billy was a major issue.
They have rekindled their romance and she is living in Mississippi. He dad, John Reaves, was a gator QB and involved with the program.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 10:44 amIsn't Lane divorced?..if true, so Lane wants to go back to a school where his former wife attended? Creepy.. get over that breakup Lane![]()
My understanding that they are reconciling. Laya and the kids moved to Oxford a while back. His son is a back up QB on the OXford HS team and is being recruited for the class of '28 by LSU among others. He recently came in a threw a TD pass to win the game against last year's state champs (yes, I now live in the Sip).BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 10:44 amIsn't Lane divorced?..if true, so Lane wants to go back to a school where his former wife attended? All my Gator people want Lane as well, just not sure they get him. I don't think Lane ever coached at UF but his wife is a Gator and her dad, John Reaves, was a QB for Florida and involved with the program. Her Gator roots run deep, but not sure it would be smart for him to leave Ole Miss now. I wanted UF to hire Lane 4 years ago and thought he might leave then but he has Ole Miss running like a well oiled machine now, not sure why he would want to leave. He will be a legend if he stays in Oxford, Florida legends need to wear the Orange and Blue not just coach it (hell, they all hate Urban and he won 2 Nattys).Apptiger wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 10:03 amBilly set the tone there and everyone liked it. Issues were some of the assistants. He liked to hire friends, previous coworkers, people he knew or men of character. Not necessarily the best coaches. He was building for the long term and the patience ran out due to a lack of progress and the offense.
He insisted on being the head of the offense and calling the plays. Thinking there is he was too distracted trying to make the offense work to focus on the overall picture.
My Gator connections are saying they are focused on Lane Kiffin. His wife went to school there and they met when he was an assistant there. He said a good while ago he would like that job. We'll see.
I would have sworn he was a grad assistant under Spurrier for a bit (cup of coffee). but I looked it up, Google says no.t4pizza wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 11:21 amAll my Gator people want Lane as well, just not sure they get him.
