Maryland's was't the first to go: North Texas in Conference USA fired their coach, Dan McCarney, Saturday night immediately after their game (while players were still in the locker room showering). They lost to FCS Portland State 66-7. McCarney led them to a bowl game in 2013. The buyout is in the $2M to $3M range. An awful lot of wasted $$$ for a perennial bottom dwelling FBS team.

Not going to help their recruiting this year. No doubt changes have to be made sometimes but recruits get nervous when these things happen. Even with an interim from the staff there is no way of knowing who will get the HC job or even if the assistant that is their primary recruiter, whom they've built a relationship with, will be there after the new hire. Maryland currently sits 8th in the Big 10 and 39th nationally, according to 24/7. It'll be interesting to see what changes happen in the next few weeks.

One nice thing about Satt's new contract. It shows some stability in the program, which is a big plus for us. Anything can change but for now we are in a nice zone. And the UL-L info that 89 just posted shows at least one of our conference mates isn't.

Technically it began before the season started when Illinois fired Tim Beckman six days before the opener due to player treatment. So it's currently four firings so far with USC likely to be looking for a coach with Sarkisian out due to his alcoholism.

Did USC ask him to take a leave or did Sark ask USC?

USC asked him-he came in on Sunday either drunk or hungover and the AD sent him home and informed the players he was taking the leave.
Give 'em hell!

Due to Georgia Southerns success, I think its only a matter of time before Fritz jumps ship to the next bigger and better thing. I know he was getting interest at Kansas last year.

Screw Maryland. They lost me when they moved to the Big Ten.
