Why? We have been upfront and honest with our intentions the entire time, and I've never heard CC or KP make disparaging remarks about the SoCon. Given the relative lack of DI schools sponsoring soccer and especially wrestling, it may be in both parties' interest to allow those two sports to continue being members of the SoCon. You may be right, but it does at least seem possible that those two sports could remain in the SoCon.JCline0429 wrote:ASUMountaineer wrote:Field Hockey already competes in the NorPac Conference, so I'd assume we will keep it. I seriously doubt we would cut any women's sport due to Title IX. As for wrestling and soccer, there's hope in that both may be able to stay in the SoCon as the SoCon doesn't have full representation in these two sports. We shall see though.asu66 wrote:Assuming (I know how dangerous is to assume anything in realignment speak) that we aren't getting jerked around again by anonymous, evil pundits who get their thrills by pushing our buttons, then some decisions are going to have to be made in Charlie Cobb's office suite.
What decisions, you ask? Well, the SBC doesn't have men's soccer, wrestling, or field hockey. ASU does! ASU doesn't have women's swimming and diving. The SBC does!
And for the two or three guys who care, no, the SBC doesn't have ice hockey.![]()
Will some sports become casualties of football's success? Will we add women's swimming and diving? If my understanding is correct, we don't have an Olympic pool on campus with enough lanes for official competition. Will we seek other conference affiliation for a few of our Olympic sports that the SBC can't accommodate? Will our field hockey program be held harmless since it already has a working conference affiliation?
A lot of details have to be worked out! Decisions...decisions. Maybe!
I could very well be wrong, but I think we have maybe burned our bridges with the SoCon.![]()

Wouldn't have mattered if Pele was there, I would still feel the same way about it.JCline0429 wrote:BUTCH1991 wrote:asu66 wrote:Avast, you dog; off with yer head! Feed 'em to the fishes, mateys!BUTCH1991 wrote:Add women's swimming and diving. Drop soccer
I know, I know. There are a handful of soccer fans, so I'll spare you my "Soccer is the Death of America" speech. While I was in school, I did discover that a soccer match was a good place to go study if your roommates were partying. No one was there and it was very quiet. Got ready for a few exams that way and was never distracted by what was happening on the field.
You evidently weren't around during the Vaughn Christian era or you wouldn't have felt that way. Ask asu66.

It's great exercise, but not much for spectators.

I was going to say either not here during the Hank Steinbrecher era or no kids!FWIW, I felt the same way, in part, until my 7 year old stated playing last season.

Soccer is more a player's game not a spectator game. I can't stand to watch it on TV myself. But APP's games used to have a large crowd mixed with locals and students. But it's not for everyone.

I won't purport to tell you what you should like and don't like.
However, for many in the world it is the leading spectator sport. In fact, my son left today for England to watch his beloved Arsenal side play this weekend.
It is a "to each his own" world and you certainly are entitled to your opinion but don't state it as fact.

Glad to hear Cobb state that Wrestling and Soccer will remain in the SoCon and Field Hockey will continue to play in the NorPac for now.
