Indeed. The only way the Sun Belt can go higher is if we banished ULM and a few others to replace them with Memphis, Tulane, ECU, and a couple others. I don't see the league kicking out 4-5 schools so it won't happen.

Sounds like you want us to be in the AAC, which is a financially better conference. I agree.
Everyone that supports the Sun Belt keeps saying wait until the new media deal to be even to the AAC. It’s not happening. We can join the AAC and bring that conference even more value.
Why fight for $5m when we can get $15m in a better conference.

I do not think the AAC is a better conference, because when Texas and Oklahoma left the Big XII, they backfilled with their only stars, Cincinati, UCF, and Houston, While SMU went to the ACC. SMU is the only one that was relevant last year at all. The AAC then replaced them with programs from C-USA, as did the SBC. The Sun Belt Conference got the best three from C-USA, Marshall, USM, and ODU, when the AAC got programs that were not the best in UNCC, UAB, FAU, North Texas, and UTSA.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 8:14 pmSounds like you want us to be in the AAC, which is a financially better conference. The fans need to care about the games; it is easier to care about the games if it is easy for the fans to attend. The AAC is a shell of its former self just like C-USA and the PAC-12. In many ways the Big XII is a shell of its former self.
10 million more sounds like a lot of money, but it has not helped Charlotte or ECU win more games than teams in the SBC.

Even though LaTech may be voted in, did/will App still be a NO vote? I hope so. And who else is with us?

No, sounds like App and CCU were votes 9 and 10 last week. All 13 will vote yes on Monday I’d assume.

Re: Texas State "heavy favorite" to join Pac-12, LaTech favored to join Sun Belt
The AAC would make sense if their current membership stayed in place and they wanted to expand to say 18 with us and two other SBC schools, or if they decide to add a large chunk of SBC schools following an exit by Memphis, Tulane, and USF.
I think we want to join if those schools leave and they only want one or two schools to backfill. We'd be looking at CUSA 3.0 all over again.

I actually would prefer either a few SBC schools and a few AAC schools break away to form a new league or become east division of the PAC. I do think we have to do whatever is most financially lucrative for us so if there is another option that makes us more money I would say to do that.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 8:14 pmSounds like you want us to be in the AAC, which is a financially better conference. The AAC is a financially better conference. That was my statement. There is no refuting that when in-state schools receive double what App receives.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 10:38 pmI do not think the AAC is a better conference, because when Texas and Oklahoma left the Big XII, they backfilled with their only stars, Cincinati, UCF, and Houston, While SMU went to the ACC. Money has not helped people win historically, but now it’s everything. The revenue sharing comes largely from the conference. ECU and Charlotte have double the resources as App to compete for players because of their conference affiliation.

The question that you have to ask is “What is App’s worth to a media contract?

More than any property in the Sunbelt.

But how much are we being devalued by our conference mates? I get that we are at the high end of the curve, but how far are we from the median?

That is a good question to ask Doug Gillin where we stand. The goal should be to get in a league with schools that have similar value to us so we aren't carrying 90% of the league and simply carrying our own weight.

Interesting Ark St fan seemed to indicate JMU, ODU, and Marshall were the last three nos.
Good for CCU, surprising they would take that position given their leadership.

That’s an ideal situation but not necessarily realistic. These conferences are set up for academic relationships just as much, if not more than for athletics. Athletics needs the school, the school doesn’t need athletics.

Re: Texas State "heavy favorite" to join Pac-12, LaTech favored to join Sun Belt
I am wondering if our leadership and other schools really want La Tech or they are playing the long game. Vote yes now and work on a plan to form a new league or join with another league in a few years? I would have preferred to vote no now, drop ULM,and see what 2 schools can be added in a few years but it is possible the schools are not wanting to rock the boat and let it be a dead give away they want to make a move.
