They boat raced us in the championship game...not playing in the East is not the reason they were good. That is crazy talk. They had a damn good coaching staff....which led to a good contract at Tulane.

I agree, I think western members viewed this as somewhat existential if they didn't fill the spot quickly.

The longer the spot remained open the more likely it would be filled with a member that could be part of the eastern block splitting away longer term or lead to backroom meetings of that nature.

Still a possible outcome, would be interesting to see if Troy would move with the eastern division if given the choice.
This is the vibe I'm getting as well. The West wants some protection if things hit the fan in a few years, and the East teams couldn't come to an agreement on the best course of action right now. LT is basically a plug and play for Texas State that doesn't really hurt the East, and like you said nobody else available was good enough to really fight over. Give the West this little win while still planning for what could come down the road.

Interesting thought. If there was a breakaway, do you take the 7 current East teams, add Troy and take WKU and Ohio/MTSU to get to 10 or do you take the 7 East teams and add Ohio, WKU and MTSU?
I believe you need eight members playing together for three straight years to maintain postseason eligibility rights.

That is why the west fought WKU and why I think Troy has leverage if we were to go that route.

I’m a sucker for war game discussions of course.
Bingo! I mentioned that on the SBC board a week or so ago. I wonder if the East should now push to go to 16 teams since there's no guarantee Troy would move with us, even if means something like adding WKU and MTSU?

This te likely reason that Ohio reached out.

The positioning among schools and leagues as 2030 approaches will be interesting to watch.
