The TV contracts will be less. We are seeing that right now in the Big East.GlassOnion wrote:When you say less money, I dont know what you mean. The FCS funding will go down, almost certainly. We'll be spending more, and the lower FBS teams will likely stay about the same. I dont see a scenario where ALL BCS teams cease playing FBS teams, so there will always be some connection b/w those two levels, and payouts besides.bcoach wrote: Yes we agree. My only point is that we will need to learn to do it on less money. As has been said the lower FBS will have to become more regional, and make some other moves to keep cost in line. We will all be in the same boat so it should work out just fine. When we finally do have a playoff for the non “BCS” or whatever it will be called, I will again be happy. I do believe that will happen because people are just getting burned out with the bowls. I see another NC at a different level one of these days.
The main difference I see b/w FCS and FBS is the FBS's determination to put the best product on the field. The schools like The Citadel, you see their fans on AGS posting that they dont care about how good the football is, as long as they are playing Furman, VMI, ect.
I just dont understand that. If it aint worth doing well, it aint worth doing.

The new BE contract is nearly the same as the old CUSA contract. Not surprising considering the new BE is the old CUSA.bcoach wrote: The TV contracts will be less. We are seeing that right now in the Big East.

Re: Fewer FCS vs FBS Games?
I do understand what you are saying. That is true but only to a point as the CUSA still is CUSA and the BE still is the BE. Again all I am really saying is that lower level conferences are going to have to do with less but by the same token we will all be in the same boat. Using the BE as an example the contract is for less but the expenses are more. Salaries go up, gas goes up, food goes up, and vehicle costs go up and on and on. The income is not going up to the same degree and in some cases not at all or worse.GlassOnion wrote:The new BE contract is nearly the same as the old CUSA contract. Just as a general observation and in no way directed at you or any one individual. We need to get a little more realistic. When you read the board you hear an awful lot about what we "need to do". Need to improve the baseball stadium. Need to lower the field, remove the track and put in more seats. We need to get going with the next stadium expansion that is hanging up on the wall. We need, we need, we need. We need to spend more money on coaches. Here is what we really need. We need to figure out where the money is going to come from if we want all these things. If we can't figure that out we need to figure out what we can have and be happy about it for a change. Just every once in a while we need to sit back and look at what we have and be thankful. We need to be able to say we are thankful for what we have without someone accusing you of being complacent.
Well I have gone on a rant that really has nothing to do with you at all but it is a rainy day and things are slow.

How about a State Athletics Lottery? The Education Lottery after all has done wonders.

It is easy to make the decisions when one doesn't have to worry about the money. At this point we can plan and announce the wish list (as we recently did) but we need to be realistic that we aren't at that point where we can do all those things. I do think based on the way things are shaking out we need to find an FBS home and avoid being left behind in the changing landscape. No doubt there are many challenges ahead and likely some bumps in the road.

Very true. We need to move. I don't like it but I have a feeling I will like it even less if we don't. I will continue to hold out hope for a lower level FBS playoff and we can climb to the top again.hapapp wrote:bcoach wrote:I do understand what you are saying.
