Just a matter of time
Re: Just a matter of time
"An inside source", "my buddy", "good vibes", you guys are too much. Nobody knows anything but the decision makers, but I hope all your hunches are correct. We won't wait if given an invite. We need to start the transition as soon as possible. Besides, we haven't exactly been close in the playoffs the last few years. We have nothing left to prove. FBS now! Go Apps!

My wife's, brother's, cousin-in-law, says its a done deal.
Seriously, I do believe it is just a matter of time. App and the Sun Belt don't really have any other options.

Re: Just a matter of time
At this point, if it is Sun Belt, we may be better off in new D1 playoff system. Since new playoff and money share system basis distribution on past 4-5 year performance SB may end of advantageous.
See Sagarin's 2012 results by conference. SB is above CUSA, MAC and Mountain West. Continue this trend and it means more post-season distribution.

Re: Just a matter of time
I'm skeptical of the Sun Belch being only 3 spots behind the ACC. The Sagarin is pretty much subjective IMOp.AtlAppMan wrote:At this point, if it is Sun Belt, we may be better off in new D1 playoff system. Even the decision makers don't know much. The negotiations behind closed doors are ambiguous to say the least.

There are a few people on here with inside info and I've seen nothing from them. Anyone claiming to know something is speculation at best right now.

Re: Just a matter of time
I've talked to four different sources and have more questions than answers at this point. Until I get matching info from at least three different sources I'm not going to believe anything I'm hearing. The only thing that everyone agrees on is that there are A LOT of discussions taking place right now and it's not just one conference. Other than that nothing is firm here because the whole thing is still developing and MANY people are waiting for the next big move to take place.Saint3333 wrote:There are a few people on here with inside info and I've seen nothing from them. Thanks firemoose, we appreciate everything you do. Can you tell us any other conferences besides the Sun Belt? I assume CUSA and/or MAC?

Re: Just a matter of time
Add both of those to the SunBelt as in the discussion (no surprise there as everybody knows we've talked to those conferences before). Was even told that our name and another of the Go5 conferences was said once in the same sentence (you can see why I have a hard time believing anything floating around right now and why I want MUCH more information). These sources are people close to the university and the program so I believe and trust what they say but there is so much going on right now and so much uncertainty surrounding not only the "Group of Five" but the entire Division-I that what is talked about one day, even a passing comment, doesn't hold water the next day. Until the ACC/Maryland situation is settled no one is going to make any huge moves. The only conference who might is the SB only because of the FAU and MTSU decision but that's the only one and they seem so far to be holding pat, at least for now. Everyone else is watching and waiting. Just like us.AppAttack wrote:Thanks firemoose, we appreciate everything you do. Can you tell us any other conferences besides the Sun Belt? Re: Just a matter of time
Look, you have to submit the paperwork before June 1 of each year to start the transition to go to FBS, other words to only start the process.
If you do not have more than 63 scholarships on your football team you are eligible for the FCS playoffs and Championship.
Case in point....
Last year ODU intentionally had 63 or less scholarships and could and did play for the FCS Championship.
Georgia State took on more than 63 scholarships and were not eligible for the FCS Championship.
The conference members normally vote to not let you win your conference championship, but could vote to let you do so if you file to eventually go FBS.
Either way your first year is an FCS transitional year. You are still FCS the first year. Second year you are an FBS transitional team.

Re: Just a matter of time
To make my previous post perfectly clear:
File before June 1st of this year and we can still play in the FCS playoffs and championship for 2013, and if we make it the Championship game in Fresno January 2014.

Re: Just a matter of time
While I would love to hear that we will have an invite by 2/28, I have my doubts.
I DO think that we have options (and are trying to create them), and I DO think we are exploring all of them. I have heard this from multiple sources as well. I don't think we are Sunbelt or bust like GSU, but in the end, if that is where we end up, we will make a good home there.
I personally think the game has changed and the GOF conferences see that now. CUSA's market strategy is ruined... see the offer for the Big East's football package from NBC as proof. The GOF, with the new revenue sharing agreement in the playoff format, must attract PROGRAMS not MARKETS. Our program is superior to all of the FBS move ups already selected and the hopefuls as well. AppState is superior to many existing FBS programs that have been playing for years. We play good football, and we put people in the stands. Our stock just went up. Finally some sanity is returning to the process, and it looks like its happening at the right time for AppState.

For those that don't know the Big East's initial TV contract in ~$24M or $2M per school, this is much lower than those schools thought.

Wasn't it just two years ago that the Big East turned down a $1.17 billion deal with ESPN?Saint3333 wrote:For those that don't know the Big East's initial TV contract in ~$24M or $2M per school, this is much lower than those schools thought.
