Would rather Peacock and Cobb be working the presidents of the Sun Belt and the conference commissioner Karl Benson. (Just hope they are not still pursuing a pie in the sky conference, we need to have been in FBS years ago.) Hope they have a computer of information about each of those presidents and their schools.

Even though political help can make a difference, especially in state flagship schools or close to it, would doubt it would so much in our case. If the entire state and most of the representatives were for us that would be good, but conferences are mainly going to do what they think is best for their interests.

A huge change was the BCS money split to the Gang of Five conferences. Some school presidents and their AD's are probably thinking that they will get more money if they keep the conference small, which is true, but they will lose money if one of their schools doesn't make it as the BCS playoff rep at least part of the time. Got to think about what they are thinking about and how.

If our administration and AD are not guaranteed that we have a lock in writing, would hope they would hire some outside help from people that know the people that will be making the decision on our admittance. Too many opportunities are slipping by to play games of asking our politicians to do something that they have no control over.

My personal opinion (fwiw) is that this was a last ditch effort by NMSU to find a friend to get into SBC.

If we, as fans, find out Geo South. was turn coating us, well then, eff them, period.

I think it is a safe bet the Chancellor and AD are very much in contact with the decision makers of the Sun Belt and CUSA. Do not underestimate the political pressure that can be applied to an institution that derives its funding from the state. Those who reside in the chambers of the state legislature and UNC System have great influence over administrators. It has been said the governors of NC and Virginia are working behind the scenes in these conference negotiations. I think a potential conference would be encouraged knowing a school has the support of their state government.
