I don't have any connections to Liberty University. That said, I think it is said the hate and venom directed their way. It seems that anything associated with Bible believing Christians is made fun of and hated by many people. Am I wrong? It appears to me that many people are all for free speech as long as that speech doesn't disagree with their world view.

If JMU is added, we will have a 2 or 3 school alliance going forward. We're perfect regional rivals, and almost identical university types.

Maybe they're just tired of private schools.

Poor guys.

I do have problems with Liberty's views. My main reason though is that the school has turned into an online diploma mill. 13,000 students on campus and 60,000+ online?! Are you kidding me?!

Can we invite University of Phoenix and DeVry too?

That could play a part as well. Liberty, being a private school with tens of thousands more students (mostly online  ) paying tuition, isn't constrained by operating budgets as the over SB teams are, all of them being public institutions.

From the upgrades that have been posted previously on the board, they obviously have a direct line to God's wallet up there in Lynchburg, but is that fair to the rest of the conference?

Sounds like the Belt is interested in JMU, but not sure if it goes both ways.

JMU helps to ease App's travel budget, expand the conference into a new state (recruiting) and makes for a natural (purple) rivalry that's lived up to the billing in recent past. From our perspective, it's a great fit and hopefully they have the support to make the jump.

The only relevant questions in regards to Liberty: can beerhatguy wear his hat into the stadium? Is the tailgating dry?

According to this article, there appears to be interest on JMU's side.

if they join, would quickly become our biggest rival, even passing GS.

That must mean WKU is as good as gone.

Would another east coast team joining the SB in any way push App to the western division of the conference? That would really be a death sentence.

Huh? How is that possible? We are further east than anybody.

Yeah you are wrong and paranoid. Most just don't want to be associated with them or any other private school.

I don't have any other connection to them either but I have a business connection who does and has not been wrong yet in what he tells me. He told me last night that their AD has been told to get them that SB bid no matter what it takes. Money is no object. Do what it takes period. Again I have no idea if it is true but he has been right on every expansion project he has told me about. In spite of the way we were treated our last time up there I would prefer JMU but I have this feeling Liberty is very much in the fight.

Their AD was probably told that it was god's will for Liberty to be in the Sun Belt.

I thought the fans were nice before the game. There was one band member that was REALLY into it, that was a bit over the top, but he was not in my face about it. He was just supporting his team. My wife and I stayed at the hotel just beside the Cracker Barrel. The store was full of VT and UVa stuff. I don't remember any purple at all. For shame. The only reason I was eating there is b/c is was a 45 sec walk to the restaurant and I was there to see a JMU game, and the store can't throw JMU a bone. I don't like local schools getting the shaft like this, rival to ASU or not.

Other reasons to have JMU in the SB. Train tracks not only in the city but through the campus itself. Granted they are hardly used, but still train tracks through campus.

Why I don't want to see Liberty is this.

I have a hard time thinking they have accreditation and pass this off as science. As part of a seminary for religious studies, then to each his own, but to pass this off as science, it makes me uneasy.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Brief article from CBS Sports about the SBC's anticipated response to WKU's departure. I thought the last paragraph of the article was the most interesting. The author seems to see some of the handwriting on the wall about the future of FCS.
