App has kept successful guys around for awhile. With the exception of Drink; Satterfield stayed for awhile, and don't think Clark will be leaving after this season making next season his 5th. Chadwell and Napier weren't around much longer than that amount of years. Neal Brown wasn't at Troy that long in comparison, and in only his second year still too early to tell about Sumrall. Plus he's young, so don't think he'll be at Troy much longer if given the opportunity. Cignetti is a unique example because he was there before the move up, and a bit older than some of the other examples. I'm sure money won't be his only motivation at this point in his career.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:01 pmWith Kentucky keeping Stoops, and Miss State going with Lebby, gotta imagine Troy is keeping their guy if he really is expected to be an SEC-only candidate. Kinda crazy how several other SBC programs have been able to keep successful guys around longer than we could. UL, Coastal, Troy all kept guys with multiple 10 win seasons. Perhaps JMU with Cignetti too.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Maybe the other schools' coaches stayed looking for a better deal. Drinkwitz may have left because he was not cut out for living in Boone. Think about this, have you ever met anyone that graduated from App that hated it? If you do not like it here you leave, you do not graduate. Maybe coaching at Appalachian is the same way. Does anyone know if he still has a house in the High Country? He could afford one if he wanted to afford one. He may never want to be in Boone again or anything to do with Appalachian ever again.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:01 pmWith Kentucky keeping Stoops, and Miss State going with Lebby, gotta imagine Troy is keeping their guy if he really is expected to be an SEC-only candidate. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
We kept Satt around longer than some expected (and he had options), and could have kept him even longer if the purse was a little larger for his assistants (based on what I’ve heard).GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:01 pmWith Kentucky keeping Stoops, and Miss State going with Lebby, gotta imagine Troy is keeping their guy if he really is expected to be an SEC-only candidate. UL kept Napier only because he was extremely selective with his landing spot (and he could afford to be that selective). He could have jumped much earlier if he wanted to make a move to a school like Louisville or Arizona State or another “mid-tier” P5. He wanted the biggest of the big opportunities and he got that at UF. It’ll be interesting to see if he makes it through December in Gainesville, they seem pretty restless down there.
Give 'em hell!

I think we did have a couple people on here who said they would take him but I don't know anyone I talk to in person who I think wanted him. I do know he would jump at our job in a heart beat if he comes open and he is not at SC or SEC in general.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:28 pmI thought App. St. wanted Elliot earlier this year. I know Shawn does not want to go anywhere. Everyone I have talked to that knows him well says he wants to stay and it would take a large purse to get him to bolt. He loves Boone and so does his family./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:16 pmApp has kept successful guys around for awhile. So, two of the three they mention have App ties...interesting but this is just an opinion piece.hapapp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:57 amSI.com thinks Ponce would be a good fit at JMU.

I just found it interesting that his name popped up. I have to believe they look at the P5 ranks first.Rick83 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:07 amSo, two of the three they mention have App ties...interesting but this is just an opinion piece.hapapp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:57 amSI.com thinks Ponce would be a good fit at JMU.

1. This article was written by “G5 Football Daily Staff” which very well could just be an AI.hapapp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:57 amSI.com thinks Ponce would be a good fit at JMU.

2. I’ll never forgive Ponce if he bounces to JMU after coming back for just one year at App.
3. Please, JMU, hire Everett Withers. Please.

How many of the really good (I include us) G5's keep really good offensive coordinators for over 3 years? How much does Ponce make?

Seems they are tracking flight from Penn St. but it’s all over the place.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
This dude's reporting was pretty flimsy around the JMU Waiver. Hope he has a better success rate on predicting a coach. No matter who it is, they will have plenty to work through after Cignetti leaving.

Saw a tweet saying JMU is looking to sign Justin Fuente, former HC at VA Tech.

If this pans out, I can already see JMU fans rising up in revolt over this move. It would smack of desperation.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 2:52 pmSaw a tweet saying JMU is looking to sign Justin Fuente, former HC at VA Tech.
Not to mention how any legit AD candidates would want to be involved in HC hires. Bringing on a new HC before you hire your new AD is a recipe for disaster.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Doesn’t take long to ruin momentum. JMU fans would go nuts if they can’t compete for a championship in their first eligible year.
