There were a good number of fans at mainly Louisiana and Arkansas State that were very vocal in their opposition to App and GS. They wanted to follow the CUSA Market model. None of them like to talk about those comments anymore.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:08 amVirtually no one thought bringing in App. St. and Georgia Southern was the end of the SBC. As I recall, they thought it was helping to save or enhance the SBC. Not sure where this fictional history is coming from.

That's different than a conference folding because ius and Stink joined the conference.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 10:18 amThere were a good number of fans at mainly Louisiana and Arkansas State that were very vocal in their opposition to App and GS. There are typically always schools and fan bases that may not want a particular team to join a particular conference. Happens every conference realignment.

Great breakdown of SBC budgets:
The ticket revenue disparity is much larger than I anticipated.

The basketball budget comparison is telling.

I've known you for 25 years on here and you always find a negative, that is literally the only metric we lag in on those slides. Consistency!

A lot to reasons in these breakdowns to appreciate the work Doug Gillin and his staff have done.

Sorry, but that just struck me considering how well we fared otherwise.

Very telling numbers. I tried to keep up but what is generally our bottom line as far as “available funds” that could go for player salaries? Always heard generally nothing really left over.
Also as far as conferences go it’s really a no brainer. App, JMU, Coastal and probably Marshall should be aligned with ECU, Memphis, ODU, Charlotte, Ga Southern and one other more regional school. Way too many P’s and G’s and the G’s are watered down.

Wow, I can’t believe that the talk of App being the little sisters of the poor in the SBC isn’t backed up by actual data! Its almost like those folks pedaling the propaganda were getting it from sources who would most benefit from that line of thinking - weird!

Nor should we be. Ga. State is pretty bad at most sports with zero fan support, and Southern is nothing but classless rednecks.

Well , JT , how do you really feel?
We really are much more tied to the remainder of the East. When the inevitable split happens, I see them choosing to head West.

As I have stated many times over on this board I would love to see our basketball program become better. I think it would be a substantial asset if we ever have the opportunity to align ourselves with a more desirable conference.
Sure, football drives the bus but a stronger basketball program couldn't hurt.
Question is how do we get it there? The budget is fairly small.

Memphis is not in the same footprint as those other schools; it is in the Central Time Zone and on the other side of Tennessee. 8:47 min away https://www.distance-cities.com/distanc ... memphis-tnBigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 7:01 amVery telling numbers. As much as some would like to think Troy is in our footprint they are 46 minutes difference in driving compared to Memphis. Troy is in the Central time zone as well.
Boone to Athens, OH is only 5:17 https://www.distance-cities.com/distanc ... -athens-oh They are in the Eastern Time Zone as well.

If they do I don’t think it will be willingly.
