The AP is reporting that a source has confirmed that East Carolina will be joining the Big East as a football-only member in 2014. Tulane will join the Big East as a full member.

Wow, the only reason that Tulane gets picked over ECU or Marshall has got to be market size with New Orleans, I bet ECU is livid!!!

Really goes to show how truly unimportant on-field performance is. Tulane is coming off consecutive 2-win seasons, hasn't won more than 4 games since 2004 or had a winning season since 2002. They have not fielded a winning team in basketball since 2007-2008 either.

If Conf USA losses two Football schools and it looks like they will, this will really leave them hungry for teams. Many fans on here seem to think MTSU is a lock to go to Conf USA, what other teams do you think are on the list? ASU or GSU?

can you imagine these conference commissioners....i bet they're screaming at their secretaries, "code red! code red! get me the file of possible teams we've snubbed but haven't insulted too badly and ask them if they're interested in joining cause although they weren't a good fit then, they are wonderful now!"

Re: Tulane to Big East, spot open in C-USA
Just a thought...does anyone think App may be waiting for all the big 4 superconference expansion to end, and then try to make a move. At that point, all the leftovers will have to figure out what to do, and App may be able to get that "regional conference" Cobb has talked about. I don't think ECU's move changes much because C-USA already has the NC market with Charlotte, and they really seem to not want us. It seems we could have already had the Sunbelt if we wanted, because they seemed to have wanted us. So I don't know if this will have much impact.
Re: Tulane to Big East, spot open in C-USA
Good chance that CUSA will pick up Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and
Western Kentucky (WKU) from the Sun Belt.
Doubt anyone would vote for us to enter CUSA, especially UNCC and Marshall wanting to keep us out because they do not want us hurting their recruiting.
Would probably give us an opening then in the Sun Belt, since they would be at 8 football members (the minimum) with 10 overall members.
Some feel that CUSA might offer FAU, who would take an offer from CUSA, to go along with FIU taken a few months ago, but doubt they do. They just want a name in Florida to help with their recruiting and FAU brings little.

I have to agree with the fans on the Sun Belt forum page, they are saying that a move to Conf USA now is not a lateral move but a move downward. Still I think if ASU got an invite to Conf USA and Marshall stays we would have some good rivalry with them and UNCC.

wouldnt marshall dislike w.kentucky more since theyre at their backdoor compared to app? im not buying the recruiting deal...you want good rivalries which will put butts in the stands...somehow, i dont see mtsu or western ky as marquee either. and uncc sucks

I am surprised that UNCC didn't get a Big East invitation... I guess the NO market> the CLT market.

What ever happens, I just hope when the dust settles, I get to see all of your ugly mugs once a year in the fall
Good luck to the Appy's and I hope we both find an FBS home sooner than later.

I don't understand this 'market crap'. I mean, what else do they want - we have a loft in New York City and and an affiliate university in China - what bigger population base do these people want!

Re: Tulane to Big East, spot open in C-USA
I think a darkhorse for a CUSA invite could be the fake GSU--Georgia State. If CUSA continues with their market strategy, Atlanta trumps all other options. You also may see FAU, if they want to get into Florida again. Personally, I think they may look at MTSU and FAU.

Re: Tulane to Big East, spot open in C-USA
I'll believe it when I see Santa's sleigh.
We're on the Island of Misfit Teams
Here we don't want to stay.
We want the spoils of FBS
And those money games.
A packed house of fans
Menat a whole lot of coin.
Wins on the field
meant new leagues to join.
When football season's here
The most wonderful time of the year.
Confused with D-II our voices all shout
Another small private? Let's get the hell out!
When football season's here
The most wonderful time of the year.
Ratings whores
Show us the door.
There's no room for more
And it's all because of perception flaws.
A Monarch for PeeDee
A Niner for Blaze.
They won't admit it's a misguided craze.
When football season's here
The most wonderful time of the year.
(Spoken)
How would you like to be a Grizzly that's chained to a Bobcat?
Or a Mountaineer with a misunderstood footprint?
Or a Flame that wants to be like Notre Dame?
We're all misfits!
How would you like to be a Duke dog with half a stadium?
Or a Gamecock that lives in Jacksonville...Alabama?
Or an Eagle with no leadership?
We're all misfits!
(back to singing)
If we're on the Island of Unwanted Teams
Our spirits be crushed, along with our dreams.
When football season's here
The most wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful time of the year!
"Some people call me hillbilly. Some people call me mountain man. You can call me Appalachian. Appalachian's what I am."-- Del McCoury Band
