FAU to CUSA = App to SunBelt?

Unread post by appgrad » Wed Nov 28, 2012 3:55 pm

Don't know if there is anything to this, because I'm not an "Insider" - but maybe you are can can tell us?

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/features ... 1128#13866

FAU looks like it's off to join FIU in CUSA - I do know that much. CUSA apparently has a thing for apathetic fan bases.

It basically recapped Cobb's quotes to Tommy Bowman. ESPN hypothesized that we would be a good fit, along with New Mexico State. No real meat there though.

Still, It's nice for an organization like ESPN to be making that assumption instead of just reading about what fans on forum sites think. I hope the SB commissioner pays attention to this.

We are the darlings of FCS in ESPN's eyes. The only FCS team they have given a lick about in the last few years. It has it's benefits.

This is my reply back to the guy who doesn't think we belong in the Sun Bet

I disagree 100%%%%.....Below is the average Sun Belt attendance for the season this year. APPALACHIAN STATE'S AVERAGE ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR WAS 27,964! 2,500 higher than Arkansas State....I believe it would be a win for the rest of the teams
in the Sun Belt. More than double higher than FAU and FIU! Give me a break. I believe you are just scared that App State will come in and contend for the leader year in and year out....Just saying....Numbers don't lie..
Arkansas State ASU Stadium (30,964) 25,429.
Florida Atlantic FAU Stadium (30,000) 13,943.
Florida International FIU Stadium (23,500) 13,634.
Louisiana–Lafayette Cajun Field (31,000) 22,865.
Louisiana–Monroe Malone Stadium (30,427) 19,359.
MTSU Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium (30,788) 17,738.
North Texas Apogee Stadium (30,850) 18,927.
South Alabama Ladd Peebles Stadium (33,471) 16,793.
Troy Veterans Memorial Stadium (30,000) 20,952.
WKU L. T. Smith Stadium (22,000) 17,415.

Article basically talks about the move of FAU to CUSA, but at the end it mentions that Sun Belt has been in discussions with ASU, GSU, and one other school since September.

The Sun Belt to 99% of America is I-AA without the playoffs.

I look forward to watching the playoffs every year, and will usually go to a game or two. I doubt very seriously if I would ever travel 10 hours to go see the godaddy.com bowl.

But we might get Wake Forest back on the schedule, which would be great.

But, to 100% of recruits, out of conference opponents, and the media the Sun Belt is I-A and the So Con is I-AA.

If we stay FCS much longer, UNCC and ODU and Georgia State , etc. will have a huge head start on FBS recruiting. They already do, but it will get worse.

We need to be FBS badly ASAP.

Sun Belt must have contacted Dr. Peacock and Charlie Cobb by now - so why have we not heard anything?

Unless there is something else in the works with a different conference, this blog, if true, says that our administration has completely blown it.

Biggest blunder in ASU athletics history if we are a SoCon school in 2014 and GaSo is in the SunBelt.

Not only do I want Cobb's resignation if he doesn't get the deal done, I want his nuts in a jar on my desk.

relax. All it says is that those three are "among the list of schools" being considered. It does not say that those three schools are the list.

Well, time will tell, but before we slit our wrists and hang Charlie, let's see what happens. That article does not say that ASU is OUT. It says the schools mentioned are AMONG the list of those being considered. Step back off the ledge for just a bit folks.

Rumors have been wrong before. Not too long ago, we were supposedly headed to the SB and the announcement was imminent. Lets give it some time and find out what is actually going on before chopping off anyone's manhood.

Now, if we end up staying in FCS, then feel free to rage. I'm sure I'll be just as angry.

This seems like an opinion piece by the auther more than inside info. Benson has stated time and time again he wants teams that fit the leauges footprint. Idaho and New Mexico arent exactly in the footprint. If this is a done deal yes I am pissed and will do my best to fill up Cobbs Voicemail and Inbox with my opinions but I dont think there is any merit to this particular arcticle just yet.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!
