Question is will the Sun Belt counter with an invite to JMU(James Madison) or Liberty fairly soon?

Yeah. Sun Belt really has no choice if they want to have a championship game in 2014 (and this seems to be very important to Benson). No FBS programs to realistically add... so, it will have to come from FCS ranks. Hopefully it's JMU, but Liberty wouldn't be a terrible addition.

After doing further searching and reading, it sounds as if JMU is coming in with us to replace WKU in the SBC eastern division which is cool and great for travel expense.

Looks like the natural rivals and geographic landscape is lining up quite well for us.

If there is another SB defection, it would be even sweeter if Liberty got in as well.

HIP HIP HOORAY! Go Mountaineers! Sun Belt Nation looking sweeter and sweeter!

This is a result of Tulsa leaving CUSA for the Big East.

I am actually very excited about the possibility of JMU coming with us. That would give us two very strong traditional (or semi-traditional) rivals within reasonable distance. I hate that WKU is leaving, because I think we could have renewed that rivalry as well. My hope is that we can leverage some of these moves to build ongoing non-conference rivalries with schools like ODU, Charlotte and now WKU. We have an NCAA requirement regarding FBS home games I think and conference schedule doesn't completely fill that need. In those early years when getting FBS programs to visit Boone might be challenging, these relationships could make life much easier for everyone. It would be tough to have ongoing series with all three (obviously) but it's good to have options.

I am extremely (selfishly) excited if JMU comes on board. The Sun Belt is not the most travel friendly conference from where I live (Richmond).

No doubt the whole landscape is so different it's hard to keep up, but just a few short months ago, posters on this Board scoffed at Liberty even joining the SoCon.

Me too, and me too.

It's crazy how fast WKU's fortunes have changed, going from one of the worst FBS starts ever to turning it around and heading to C-USA.

I still wish App would have/could have jumped before the moratorium. Could be us setting up shop.

I imagine the remaining Sun Belt school fans aren't going to be thrilled about the possibility of another FCS team joining the ranks.

Two years ago (maybe even 18 months), WKU was the poster child for the anti-FBS bunch as what ASU is destined to become if we were to move. My how times have changed, indeed.

I find the disdain of the Sun Belt fans toward the move-ups quite ironic since every team in the conference, including the recent CUSA departures, except for UL-L, has been a move-up within the not too distant past. It's extremely hypocritical, but not too surprising.

I'm still not convinced WKU is a program we should pick to emulate as we move forward. Petrino will be gone as soon as he posts a winning season. I would like to have their basketball program, though.

Yeah, I dont understand their disdain either when it comes to football. We and GSU and JMU are arguably already better football programs including facilites than the remainder of the Sun Belt. Besides who do they think they are going to get anyway? We along with the recent adds will only improve the flavor for Sun Belt.

Overtime I see another "Mountain Jug" type rivalry developing with a different team wearing purple.

It's typical human nature though. I live in Pinehurst. Every Yankee Geriatric wants to retire here, but when they do, they want to close the door behind them. Oh, and then tell us how things were done where they came from.

Yeah, maybe call it the "Fumble Jug". On another note we are going to have to come up with some new nics for our new foes. Of course we get to keep one with "The Stink"

Any ideas for the nicks bang away troops.
Furple gone to Purple Pukes maybe for starters or the Dreamer Streamers

I don't think anyone is advocating that we emulate WKU, just pointing out that they had a couple tough years after transition and were used as the prime example of what App was destined to become if we moved. I'd sure like to emulate their bball success, however.

Isn't much of Old Crow from Harrisinning, and didn't Doc give them their break in Boone? Perhaps We could fight for a wagonwheel...
