Just really surprised that he wasn't welcomed at Indiana. The timing of his getting in the portal combined with his coach(s) and seemingly half his JMU team going to Indiana just seemed like the place he would land. Now that he hasn't landed there, I wonder why he wasn't welcomed as he clearly appeared to be one of the biggest talents on that team.

Looks like a lot of coaches didn't believe he's a great passer. JMU used him well, but he isn't an elite passer. Joey can make a lot of throws McCloud can't.

Some interesting comments from JMU folks on the Belt board. Most wish him well and no one really bad mouthed him for going to Texas State. However, there was a theme that he wasn't really someone who worked hard at his craft and that was the reason he wasn't initially their starter. Perhaps explains why he wasn't welcomed at Indiana when Cignetti left. There was also some suggestion that there might be academic issues. Those two could be the reason he wasn't in high demand despite his being the reigning POY.

I have a theory that academics will play a huge role in the portal. I may be way off base but the great majority of players who enter the portal do so because they didn't get the playing time they expected. If a young person is this unhappy with the school they are currently enrolled at are they making the effort academically? While it certainly isn't true of all college athletes and I'm not using a broad brush there are a whole bunch who either barely get by or only do so with the help of tutors and other forms of assistance. If these disgruntled group is barely academically eligible how on earth are they getting accepted by the next university?

So QB McCloud ends up going from JMU to TxSt
Super QB friendly system there. He's going to put up huge numbers. Glad we don't play them in regular season.
We already beat him when he was surrounded by almost-undefeated Top 25 ranked talent.
I'm not concerned with him individually. But, him in Kinne's system is going to put up video game numbers.

Fortunately for everybody in SBC, Tx State can't play defense

Any academic exclusion is a joke anymore...........in fact the POwers (5) that be have totally ruined the landscape of college football. The are a cartel and with the NCAA neutered I have said many times there should be plenty of antitrust lawsuits against the Power 5.... i am disgusted with it.

Do you know that NIL was the motivation to transferring?

Not fore sure but when a good Big10 program comes calling with $60k and a scholly… I could easily assume the NIL was a ga tor

Do you know for a fact that they were given scholarships and is the 60k verifiable?

I mean they were graduate transfers so maybe there were other circumstances that led them to leave. Sorry, I’m not one that believes that NIL is the root to all evil.

I spoke to Coach Bentley at the Winston Spring Tour and asked if NIL had impacted wrestling and he mentioned losing 2 of his top wrestlers
