"Georgia Southern has agreed to a new five-year deal for coach Clay Helton that extends him through the 2029 football season, sources told ESPN.

The deal includes a raise to an average of $1 million per year over the five years, per sources. He's 20-19 over three seasons and has reached bowl games in all three years.

The deal includes incentives that could raise it above a million per year. He made more than $800,000 in 2024.

Georgia Southern is coming off an eight-win season in 2024, the best season there since 2020. Georgia Southern's season in 2024 included wins over Marshall, James Madison, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State."

Winning vs. your peers is the barometer.

Indeed, wins against those teams that matter.

I'll take 'Things I wouldn't do for $1,000,000', Alex.

How does that salary compare to our new coach?. I know it's been discussed on here but negotiations change the numbers.

Working in Statesboro would be undesirable. Having to also live there would be like descending to a deeper level of hell.

As a die-hard App fan, I would live in a shack by Eagle Creek for a million a year. I'd also retire after 5 years and go live in a shack by a beach with hopes the salinity in the air would keep all the infections I picked up during my 5 year stint in Statesboro in remission.

Hopefully the new Hyundai plant outside of Savannah will drive some economic development and demand drivers towards Statesboro. Statesboro sure needs the help.
If you haven't checked it out, take a look at Google Earth heading up I16 out of Savannah towards Statesboro. It's going to be an impressively massive facility when complete.
A lot of suppliers following suit behind Hyundai.

You'd also have the pleasure of driving the program into the ground. I'd commit so many NCAA violations if I was the GSU coach...

Sometimes, I wonder what other fan bases are saying about Appalachian.
