www.goasu.com url expires
For years I have used www.goasu.com to log into the Appalachian sports website to check on schedules, rosters, etc. Even though the website officially changed to www.appstatesports.com a while back that old simple URL still worked to get me there....now I find out they have let that domain name expire. UGGHHH!!!
Now I guess I will have to train my brain to remember the new one after all this time.
I guess I am getting old...don't like change.
RANT OVER...I feel better now.
Can't wait to get to attend games in person again this fall!!!!

It appears you may be able to purchase the domain name goasu.com and therefore direct it to route those that still use it to whatever url you wish. The price might be costly, or maybe not. The cost for keeping that domain name was probably minimal, but I for one, hope we cut all unnecessary sports-related expenses considering we have cut entire programs.

But we were supposed to make millions by selling it to one of the other ASU teams that had already developed web addresses.CVAPP wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 3:04 pmIt appears you may be able to purchase the domain name goasu.com and therefore direct it to route those that still use it to whatever url you wish. That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Re: www.goasu.com url expires
Right now, it is in "Grace Period" for renewal. Every domain registrar has different rules on this, but typically its 30-45 days for the original owner to be able to renew it. If that period passes, it enters the first part Redemption Period which gives the original owner more time (albeit at a high cost) to renew (usually 7-10 days). After that, it enters the second part of the redemption period where essentially the domain registrar can hold an auction on it (typically for 30-45 days). If it passes that, it enters back in to the general public to be bought for the less than $20 a year.
There are bots that will pick up high traffic-ed domains as soon as they enter the phase where public is able to buy them though. So, if you really want it, your best bet is to pay for a service to get it. Those are roughly $200 and don't guarantee you get it. But, if you do get it, its the initial ~$200 for the first year and less than $20 every year to renew.

I have no idea in the world why we would drop it. There is more change lost in a couch than it cost to keep it.

My guess (and this is strictly a guess) is IMG probably charges more than the <$20 a year most registrars charge so it's not that cheap for the department. They may also have some kind of contractual agreement with IMG as part of the "rebranding" effort to let it go after X amount of time.

I didn't know it was still active. I thought we sold it to Arizona state.

Re: www.goasu.com url expires
I type goappstate.com first, usually. Then remember we dropped the "go" when it changed.
