University Commercials

I’ve wondered this for a while. We have to produce better commercials promoting the university.

For years I have wondered why we don’t get our football video crew to produce these. Year in and year out, they do incredible, award winning work. They could sleepwalk and do better than what we currently put out.

Thoughts?

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. Not sure this is an area where we want to cut corners and settle for low-production values.

Could be better, but definitely not as bad as...

We could copy Duke. The way I see it, they owe us one.

I like our videos promoting the people at Appalachian instead of those videos at other universities promoting all the stuff they have instead of their people. The People at App are the best part, just like the people on this message board. We probably have the least amount of grammatical errors of any message board.

I can say with a high degree of confidence that every single aspect of this video is the definition of "cringe."
My shame after viewing it today is utter, abject and complete...just as it was the day I first watched it, all those years ago.

I feel so completely ill that I'm calling in sick to work today. Thanks, folks.

Did anyone view this video live while it was promoted on the Appalachian Family Caravan Tour? Over 15 years ago, but curious to know what the reaction was at that time.

Only Ruby Rhod can make saying HOT, HOT, HOT sound cool.

The reaction was universally bad. I actually emailed Peacock about it and got a reply from him that it was never supposed to see the light of day. He owned it, as the head man, and understood that it should never be used.

This video was targeted for older donors. It wasn't meant for idiots from rival schools on message boards.

Hot Hot Hot has been around so long now it no longer affects me. I say own it and embrace it. It's been 17 years.

I'm fine with the current commercial. It's simple and effective. Sometimes less is more.

The football videos are great for attracting recruits and building a social media presence. Sometimes they don't actually convey what happens good enough IMO.

Hot Hot Hot, is the video that helped us beat Michigan. Without it, Michigan may have taken us seriously...

These ESPN+ games seem like the perfect place for the Yosef Club to advertise. There aren't a lot of unaffiliated high schoolers watching midweek SunBelt games. It's Alumni and fans. A simple ad reminding people to join the Yosef Club or buy their season tickets seems like the right message for the audience. Heck, promote Homecoming weekend with the Town of Boone/Chamber of Commerce.

Not exactly on target of this discussion...but this video is timeless...can update video as needed over future years..but this should be played before or during every football game...video can change...audio works forever

That's how I felt about it even back then. People worry too much about rival fans making fun of us on the internet. You have to be able to laugh at yourself. It's something silly and ridiculous that almost every App grad knows. My wife and friends and I still pull out a line or two with each other every once in a while. How can anyone watch that and not get a laugh (or years of laughs) out of it?

exactly. Being able to laugh at yourself is something that will make you a much happier person.

I work at a university as a graphic designer. I wish it was as easy as putting together a cool video that represents a university but unfortunately there are always so many cooks in the kitchen with that kind of stuff. Everyone wants a say and usually what starts off as something cool ends up not looking great.

Are your pointed comments are aimed at me? Is it that hard to see sarcasm in my remarks?

BTW, I am a 1993 App State grad.

Was not directed at anybody in particular, just those from rival schools who made a corny humorous issue out of it as if the video defined us. Since you are not an idiot and not from a rival school, it didn't apply to you nor anyone else on this board unless they are incognito rival fans. Happy belated St Patrick's day.
