All you skinny people are responsible for this.

What has kept me from going there time and time again was location and traffic. Seems like KK would have thrived closer to campus, imagine if that thing was near the old Blockbuster or Hardees.
As the article says, they are directing people to Winston if they want their fix. Nothing like an hour long drive for a doughnut . . .

I will say this, I never have driven by that location when the Hot and Now sign was illuminated. And that always pissed me off but not nearly as much as the store closing. When I was at App, we would drive down to Hickory (I think) just to get a piping hot Krispy Kreme. There really is nothing better in the donut world.

Many local choices as well. It is my understanding that Dunkin pulled out of location next to new pizza hut. Not sure if true.
With that said, hard to beat pure hot glaze (sugar) of the KK donut

KK's are mostly franchise locations. Given the abrupt closure, it appears the franchise owner wasn't making enough money. Sucks.

The closure may be partially my fault. Any time I come to Boone I can’t make it past the kk store in Lenoir.

Growing up we would drive from north of Conover to Charlotte and have to do 4 right-hand turns due to the way the traffic was on Independence Blvd at the time. And hour away.

I once ate a dozen hot Krispy Kreme donuts in less than an hour sitting in my car. Back in those days, I was skinny and couldn't gain weight. Now, it's the opposite.

I paid for my first car selling KK doughnuts at a mill gate every morning. Bought 100 boxes in Salisbury for $1 at 5:30am...sold them at mill gate in Kannapolis at 7:00 am fo $2. Till this day can't stand the smell of them. The smell of 100 boxes of KK in a small car for an hour would overwhelm your senses.

I confess to having done this as well back in the day
I felt great eating them, felt terrible right after and feel bad now just thinking about it.

We ordered a few dozen to take to our breakfast tailgate for the UNC game this season. We picked them up that Friday afternoon and was surprised we had to go through the drive thru to get them as the lobby was closed. It's a shame they couldn't get enough help to stay open. I understand that Sunny Rock in BR has met the same fate, permanently closing this past Saturday.

Last few trips there they never had enough workers to open the doors. Drive through only. What the hell is wrong with these kids not working??? Boone is a college town and 20K students should be working part time jobs for spending money. I blame parents for allowing these kids not to have to work for their spending money at least. Stop coddling the future leaders of our country. Work never hurt anyone!! Amazes me that so many businesses especially restaurants all need help with workers.

I've been there a handful of times. Hate it for the franchisee and employees, but I truly think they didn't do well because of the local donut shops closer to campus.
Oh, and the service was always terrible at this KK location. One time, I was the only car in the drive thru and it took roughly 10 minutes to get a coffee and donut...

I think this may be a trend for Krispy they just closed one down on Four seasons boulevard in Hendersonville.

Guess I'm lucky to live in Winston where I have several locations to choose from, lol.

When I was a student sure they'd get my business but now if I have to choose a donut the few times I'm in town I'm probably going Local Lion.

More recently I have become a fan of duck donuts. Don't get me wrong, when they are "hot now" they practically melt in your mouth, but custom shops have lots more flavor offerings, and the cake donuts have come a long way. My favorite duck donut is maple/bacon, but some of the seasonal offerings are excellent.

Maybe the higher ups can pay the folks more, or just pay them (see below). If you are lacking employees then sweeten the pay and benefits. Seems that is basic market economics, or do markets only apply when the rich and powerful can use the markets to maintain their position and socioeconomic status?
This is the same company that was fined over a million dollars less than a month ago for wage violations. Those executives ought to be doing jail time for theft.
