Makes a lot of sense to me, although not having any reserved parking for residents seems like a big headache.

the preliminary idea seems to be, at the very least, worth exploring, but of course we are dealing with small town politics, if this plan starts to gain momentum, you can pretty much guarantee, there will be a group that will aggressively oppose it, which means it would be delayed, or the builder would just give up and start another project in another town.

Boone needs nothing more than public parking available in the "downtown" area. But I'm still not sure why they keep throwing up apartments without guaranteed parking for the residents of that building, I don't think I've seen that anywhere outside of Boone, at least not regularly. I hate how the town council or whoever tries to restrict what Boone could become. As the university continues to grow Boone will have to as well, whether they like it or not.

The comments from the locals baffle me. This building would add much needed parking and be a visual improvement to the town. It reminds me of the fight locals put up over the new College of Ed building. They claimed it would take away from the look of downtown even though hippy hill is right across the street from there. Geez

Those comments are laughable. The locals seem to forget that without App, Boone would be no more than Jefferson or possibly Sparta. 2k residents and virtually no hope for growth or income. Dummies.

Boone locals will always find something to complain about.

"Oh, a new company is wanting to open shop in town, bringing with it 500 new jobs? That's bad for Boone! It'll just bring more competition to local businesses and make it harder to survive here!
"Another apartment complex? That makes Boone look even worse! What they need to do is tear all of them down and force Appalachian to accept fewer students!"
"A Krispy Kreme in Boone? There goes Local Lion! I'm so glad Boone cares more about making an extra buck rather than standing behind what this town was started as!"

No matter what, the locals here will always be unhappy. They want more parking downtown and here's a solution. Now they don't think it will fit the image of King Street. I just have to wonder, though, what exactly the image of King Street is? Besides the main two blocks, King Street has quite a few dilapidated and unoccupied buildings. Are we saying that bringing more businesses into the downtown area to help these smaller, local businesses make more money is bad?

All locals seem to do is complain about App and complain about how terrible the university is, but they seem to forget that, if it wasn't for Appalachian State, Boone would be no better than Wilkesboro or Banner Elk. It'd be another stop on the road to somewhere else rather than being a tourist destination for many nowadays. Boone locals need to get off their high horses and realize that the town is growing with or without their moans and groans.

I would miss that old building memories of the bar and our bathrooms for tailgating in that gravel lot. The Mexican place in there isn't too bad currently either.

I do like keeping downtown more 'rustic' looking, but do need parking, if only it wasn't a rip off for too much money to park these days.

If it were just a parking deck, I'd be sympathetic to the complaints. I do think that would be a bad fit for King St. But this type of mixed-use project seems like it could benefit the town in numerous ways, and be aesthetically acceptable at the same time. Plus it's not like that parking lot and building set off the road with constantly changing tenants are exactly a gem right now.

"Boone locals will always find something to complain about."
Hammer meet nail, truer words have never been spoken. Amazing how these people complain about the University, but the town would not exist without it!

The people who complain about the school and the students are the same people who would charge a student five dollars for a one-dollar bill.
