Since I just saw this thread and I don't want us to be a part of any sort of violation, I have hidden the thread until I can find out for sure if members of the MMB are permitted to donate to that fund.

I have not deleted the thread and once I have an answer, I'll either put it back up or remove it, as circumstances dictate.

And please let me extend my deepest sympathies to a true App warrior, and his family. God loves you and so do we!

The NCAA can kiss my ass on this one. However, I will patiently wait for your findings and hope that we can contribute. I would say screw it but Stringer is a cool guy that would appreciate the cause, but wouldn't want it to potentially affect our school.

Sorry guys. Been pretty sick and only came on the board for a few minutes earlier today. I caught this too late to contact compliance today but I do have a message in and will let you know Friday morning as soon as I hear back.

The Compliance office got back to me and said there are no problems. They said, in cases like this, that the fund would be monitored and any additional monies that go beyond the costs of the funeral and memorial would be donated to a charity.

NCAA Bylaw 16.11.1.7 - Permissible Miscellaneous Benefits
(g) Fundraisers for student-athletes (or their family members) under the following extreme circumstances:

Extreme circumstances should be extraordinary in the result of events beyond the student-athletes control (e.g., life-threatening illness, natural disaster);
The proceeds must be designated for a specific purpose (e.g., payment of medical bills, purchase of medical equipment, replacement of items lost in a fire, etc.)
The proceeds may be given directly to the beneficiaries, with receipt kept on file by the institution, which must include the amount of expenses incurred and the total amount received; and
The excess proceeds must be given to a not-for-profit organization with the receipt kept on file by the institution.

And with that bit of news, I will restore the original thread minus all of the questions and comments.
